Hayes made a good point on Overdrive yesterday. He compared the Yankees to the Leafs (in terms of team history, financial might, etc). He wondered why there is so little anger and lack of change for the Leafs. If this was the New York Yankees, he made the point that there is no way Shanahan or Dubas would still have jobs and that a big trade or something would be happening. I mean, come on, how many years of failure has it been? Dubas keeps talking about the ‘process’... how about ‘results’??

Yet in TO firing these guys or pulling a big trade doesn’t even seem to be a conversation with the media and talking heads. He compared it to Stockholm syndrome. We have gotten so use to failure we just don’t know what to do...

comparing Hockey to Baseball is dumb. I would expect a team that spends 80-120 mil more than the average to have higher expectations. They can and do buy the best teams. The NHL has a cap that really changes things.. I would suspect the Leafs would be outspending other teams by a lot if they could.

Hockey also has a much higher randomness to it. over reacting and blowing everything away wont fix anything.

Reminder - Dubas got the keys in the summer of 18'. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve all the criticism he's getting but it'd be a quick trigger after 3 years.

Also - Hayes was suggesting that Dubas/Shanny are facing little anger/criticism? What (frank)ing world is he living in ....clearly doesn't come to the Buzz ..or read the Star ...or the Sun ...or the Globe ...etc....

And yet they still are at the helm? There is not the same level of anger as if this was the Yankees, or EVEN the Habs or Bruins...

Again, that is the attitude.

‘Over reacting’....

That is what Hayes was getting at. And yes, there are obvious differences between baseball and hockey, but he was mentioning the Yankees because of the history of the 2 franchises... but you could look at other NHL franchises that wouldn’t stand for the failure we have experienced without major shakeups... Bruins wouldn’t stand pat after this many years...

the yankees havent won the WS since 2009 (11 seasons)..or even got to one in that time while spending the most money. The have had the same GM the whole time.

the Habs have had the same GM for 9 years? and just not got the to finals... maybe patience is the best approach?

id rather be smart and patient than dumb and over reactionary

Another thing that they mentioned on Overdrive was how odd it was at the end of the year that Dubas immediately came out and said they would not trade the big 4. It was like within 24hrs of the season ending.

Why the hurry? The season just ends in that fashion and you defend ‘the 4’ and the top-heavy construction of the Leafs? You wouldn’t take a week to examine everything?

Sounds like the new ‘Muskoka 5’ to me. Handed big contracts and can do no wrong...

Maybe someone like Dubas needs to publically criticize these shlubs? Or are they as fragile off the ice as they are on the ice?

Have the Habs had a roster like ours and then lost in the first round every year? Big difference in expectations versus results...
