You need to look back at the yankees hiring/firing history. It's not a yo-yo like you or Hayes suggest. - The Law
Now I haven't really followed Baseball since the Expos left.
But from what I understand, the Yankees can still "buy all the players" and pay the luxury tax if they feel like it.
Something the Leafs can't do, despite them sitting on a pile of money.

So Matthews missed the net cause he was scared? Hyman couldn’t get the puck past Price cause he was scared? Four guys other than Marner got delay if game penalties. They were all scared? - Canada Cup
I dont understand people criticizing Matthews. I thought he played well. Actually threw the body, chipped in a few. Sure, he hit a few posts but I thought he played well over all.
Hyman JUST came back from injury didn’t he? Considering that I thought he did okay...
And yes, many of our players are ‘scared’. In other words, they don’t like playing physical hockey! How can you construct a team like that and expect to win? |

Mathews did fine, playing with an injured Hyman and a rabbit Marner. |

Exactly. He was pulling those shlubs around... Matthews is the real deal. He is the only one on this roster who I wouldn’t entertain moving... |

You are making excuses for the poor play of the players you like while criticizing others for making excuses for the players you don't like.
Matthews was the leading goal scorer in the NHL. Something like 0.8 goals per game. And he scored one goal over the 7 game series. (Yes, Marner was worse). Matthews deserves criticism as well. |

Think i'd hang onto Nylander also, he seems to be getting better, also Muzzin. |

We lost and our top goal scorer didn’t score.
Nobody really played fine...pretty sure Mitch got his contract for assists and Matthews for goals.
I wouldn’t trade Matthews ever but he doesn’t get a pass IMO.
Seems like they’ve all got a pass the last 2 series and management is just falling back on “bad luck” syndrome.

Like I said, Hyman was injured and Marner was, I don't know what that was, he would of had a better chance scoring on the penalty kill. |

Matthews had his chances. He didn't finish.
I'm not happy with Marner after that series at all. But he can't be blamed for Matthews not finishing.

I watched the games...and Mitch looked lost, scared, jittery, pillowy soft and useless..more as the series went on
AM looked fine for the most part, I didnt get a sense he was being out played or caving to the pressure. Mitch...100%

He gets a pass for having an injured guy and a frightened little rabbit as his line mates. |

I gotta agree with my boy Senstroll over here.
Marner looked nervous as hell, missed some plays that he doesn't usually miss.
I think the accumulation of pressure due to multiple failures is getting to him.... there was no reason to be THAT nervous from the beginning of this series to the end.

I feel like I need to add here that they re-hired Billy Martin 17 times.

Ya me too, he played bad in game 7 for sure. I don’t think he played scared but whatev’s.
Matthews got the best contract in the league to score...last 12 playoff games he’s got 2 5v5 goals and 1 PP goal. Maybe he likes golf too, but that’s also not good enough. |

So Mathews doesn't even need line mates to score, we're all set then. |

Reasons we lost:
1) Montreal said “we are not going to let 34 and 16 beat us” and Hyman missed 6 glorious chances
2) Price was stellar
3) Coaching- PP, PK and line matchups
4) Mitch was rattled
5) Tavares injury
Also, Sandin Gally and Dermott issues |

Special teams were one issue. The powerplay was really bad for the second half of the season and continued to be horrible in the playoffs. In the big picture the notion of "playoff style hockey" also is an issue. The Leafs had difficulties playing through the holding (every shift by Danault), hacking, picks, cross-checks and body checks (especially the ones that had 10 or more strides before impact)
Tampa had a very good answer for "playoff style hockey" Gallagher being his belligerent best, was thrown on his head, and not much happened after that. Of course in the final game, knuckledragger Chiarot tried to pick a fight with Point, but the series was over.
Unless playoffs are called differently next season, Leafs need to add a couple of players that can do what Tampa did to Gallagher. |

For his production it's (frank)ing atrocious. |
