He scored a ton of goals when Habs had most of their games vs Vancouver and Oilers who were sieves in the first half of season.

Would be interesting to see who he couldn't score against 2nd half.

I'd have to check, but I don't think Anderson boosted his stats that badly against Vancouver and the Oilers.

Unlike Toffoli for example who just kept ramming the poor Canucks.

and 1 AZ for me.

waiting on my son's 2nd dose to have our house fully vaccinated

- dmnted

I’m getting it but I’m far from 100% sold on it, especially after seeing what’s happened to my buddy. It’s not just AZ, another guy got Pziser and was paralyzed before his 15 min wait was up. Now he shakes uncontrollably all the time. Lots and lots of problems it seems.

The guy with the big pads just wouldn't let him.

This for sure, and your big nasty d don’t let many near the crease for taps either.

AM had double the shots anyone on the Habs had...or close to it. He just didn’t get it done.

Like I said - with a guy draped over him as he's trying to score. A wee bit more difficult, no? How many, besides the posts, were "quality" shots?

So I went and checked.

Number of Anderson goals against each team:

Toronto: 3 goals
Vancouver: 4 goals
Calgary: 1 goal
Ottawa: 3 goals
Winnipeg: 2 goals
Edmonton: 3 goals.

So pretty evenly distributed.

Didn't Kevin Labanc kinda did that a few years ago with his 1M 1 year contract?

Sure the Sharks didn't win but the intention was there.

- Scabeh

Sort of, but he also only had one decent year to his name and was like 25. I'm talking a legit player like an OV or Hall etc.

Did most of those EDm and Vanc goals come early in season? They tightened up D somewhat in 2nd half.

Well most of our games against Vancouver were in the first half of the year.

Anderson also didn't score in his last 14 games of the season or something. So his production did come mostly from the first half.

Either way, I don't think it would be fair to pin this on him feeding off weaker opponents, there were bad teams everywhere else in the league.

Habs also had trouble with Ottawa all year unlike the Oilers who just kepts destroying them.

Excellent point. Shooting from the slot was virtually non-existent. If you watched Tampa lots of energy and effort was devoted to setting up a shot from the slot and middle point.

Matthews had at least 5 quality chances that he would normally bury like 80% of the time.

Not everything can be Marner's fault. Matthews is paid to score, he didn't.

The coaches are paid to give their team the best chance to win - they didn't.

Marner is paid for his offensive creativity - he was the most predictable player on the ice.

Matthews was less responsible than Marner or the coaching staff in my opinion - but he isn't to be absolved of the collapse.

He was the Leafs best player in the playoffs, next to the tender. I think he hit 9 posts. An inch or two the other way, and things are very different. That's hockey.

Leafs would not have beaten the Lighning anyway.
