It was circumvention through and through, don't try try to tell us they couldn't play weeks or even days before the playoffs.
They magically healed a day before the playoffs start. - bobbyisno1
It sucks that we also circumvented the cap and still lost.

Except there's a clause in the CBA that says that basically if they feel that you are circumventing the cap, they can take action.
That's how Bettman rejected the Kovalchuk, even though it was technically legal according to the CBA.
Everyone knew there were going to be medical miracles in Tampa on day 1 of the playoffs, but Bettman and company sat on their hands.
The league - once again - looks bush league. - Atomic Wedgie
I think it’s trickier with medical issues. They had a doctor’s report that said whatever it said and allowed Tampa to keep him out. The league reviewed the report. What else can they do? Override the doctor that’s been treating him for a year? That’s not going to happen. They’re not going to force someone to play when his doctor says he can’t and there’s nothing in the CBA about sending in a new doctor. Even if there was, unless it was Trump’s doctor, they wouldn’t contradict a doctor that’s been treating him. |

Agreed, Engvall needs a bit more consistency but maybe some talent on his line wouldn’t hurt either. - Garnie
He can't score for sh!t (okay)
He doesn't or won't hit (probably afraid of getting a neck injury)
FFS he's 6'5" and won't hit, I understand that 12" is neck but still the habs have 5'9" guys that hit. |

Traded for Nash with no intention of him playing a regular season game. Rotated players onto and off LTIR at end of year to get games in.
Aggregate cap hit of Leaf players was over the cap during the playoffs.

He was ready for the first shift of the playoffs. Circumstantial - perhaps. They cheated, the league knows it and every GM in the league knows it. To be honest, the Houston Astros stealing signs and going through all kinds of punishment repercusions and shame did far less cheating than Tampa IMO. |

I wouldn't absolve the Leafs entirely. Leafs had some legitimate injuries, including Hyman and Andersen. Both Stamkos and Kucherov were sitting at the end of the season allowing the Bolts to go $20M over the cap. Comparing these two situations is akin to comparing a fart to a nuclear bomb. |

Nah, they're headed to the Jets at a discount. Most NHL players want to play for a team that has a history of financial troubles.

It's just a matter of identifying the elite players of the league who like -40 temperatures, no culture whatsoever, and giant mosquitos in the summer. |

According to Kristen Shilton, he skated with the team for over six weeks.
That's not skating on his own.

This is probably accurate. The surgery was on Dec 29th. 3 to 4 months is the expected recovery time. End of March (3 months) he was skating, and he waited 7 weeks to play |

And where is medical evidence that overrides what his own doctor’s determination that he couldn’t play. The CBA created an out bigger than Hutch”s 5-hole |

The Leafsdid exactly the same thing. They held players out on LTIR for cap purposes to allow (Freddie?) to come injury reserve and get a few games in. |
