I don't disagree with any of that. I just said that if you are short in the pipeline at a certain position and your grades are equal on whatever is on the board there is nothing wrong with using that as a tiebreaker. Going off the board for need is certainly a mistake.

Also, every organization thinks that it is better than everyone else at scouting.

If everything else is similar I agree, but I think that’s so rarely the case.

Especially at the very top.

I think we will regret passing on Power if we do. A lot of the analytic rankings that have him like 5th or 6th have not accounted for his lack of PP1 time this past year which didn’t help his productivity

He’s going to make people look very silly when he crushes it at Michigan this year

Drafting for need in hockey is a bad practice.

I also believe they're the 2 best players.

I have a difficult time believing they will, provided they get another top 10 pick.

Even without that, I can't see them taking Eklund over Power despite what the whispers have been suggesting.

It feels inevitable to me that they take Eklund at 3 after trading Eichel for 3, Comtois and Groulx

Power at 1

Beniers and Eklund?

It surprises me that no one brings up either of those two players major question marks.

Beniers has just as good (if not better) change of being a 35-40 point 3C as he does a Jonathon Toews clone. And I like Beniers a ton

Eklund is a very flashy, good all around player but he’s not a dominant scorer by any stretch and will probably max out at a 60-70 point guy if all goes well.

This whole year is a mess

Getting 1st overall this year when they really need it next year.

Not having full seasons (or any) in the OHL, WHL, QMJL, etc to scout.

Eichel getting hurt.

Etc etc

If anything this is the year to trade #1 overall for a real NHLer and then get back in the top 5

Not sure what NHL’er would be one worth moving a potential franchise defensemen for that a team would be willing to trade

Would have to be a Brayden Point type player

Spitballing here:

Tkachuk and 12th overall for 1

Only way I would do it if Eichel is dealt to Anaheim and 3 was coming back

Trade Reinhart to LA for 8 plus

End up with 3, 8, 12 and Tkachuk

Wouldn’t do it for me.

Tkachuk is getting less productive every year and he’s due a large contract

Why the (frank) would Boston trade Pasternak for Eichel? You are not right in the head boy.
- BeadyEyedDouche

I think he means, if you want eichel, traded, within the division, it’s going to cost you. If you are dumping him “cheap” it won’t be in the East.

He's been on a 72 point average per 82 games throughout the last 3 years...

This last season was a down year where he was on a 63 point pace

Gotta remember he played 69 game before the season was stopped for Covid and had 61 points at the time

He would be a fantastic add, and would help at the box office.

How many more years do they have Pasta under contract? How many more years is Eichel under contract? Bruins better get some centers in there macht schnell. F Boston and Eichel. Sabres can back up the Brinks trucks for Pasta on his next contract. My next favorite idea after the #1 OA and Eichel combo meal. Maybe the leader in the club house. I don’t know. It’s close. We are on the eve of the 3 day period that Eichel trade will be made.

Regardless, if they're trading for Eichel, they want Pasternak on his wing for the next 10 years.

Would have to be McAvoy and Debrusk coming back as a starter.

Boston doesn't have the guns for it. Unless they want to gut their whole roster.

He went from 77 points to a 68 point pace to a 62 point pace

His underlying numbers have also dipped

Calgary has been a tire fire for that exact amount of time, too. All of them had down seasons the past couple years.

61 points in 69 games is not a 68 point pace it is a 72/73 point pace
