To Keith's credit, he really only started to slow down last season and he's 37 years old, so he played solid hockey well passed his prime, but he's cooked now. Holland should have at least made CHI retain 50%.
The truth is, the Oilers don't really need to make any major moves defensively. Yes, Barrie would have been a much better decision, but IMO they really need a couple of mid-level dmen who are solid in their own end. Their biggest weaknesses are their bottom-six and goaltending, not LD dmen which they have enough money tied up in already. Very JR. - Rinosaur
I dunno some of the stats nerds stuff says he’s been worse than JJ impact wise the last 5 years. I think Keith has gotten a free pass for years now because the team wasn’t good and his cups but really he’s part of the reason they weren’t good anymore. |

I think that's all contingent on Jones who's their #1 target. - Rinosaur
Is anyone legit saying they’re after Jones or is it just Ek? I recall the avs are fairly analytics heavy and Jones is overrated AF. |

Yeah. I read it on the Athletic the other day. I can't remember which dude, but there was an article about everyone available and who's targeting him. I honestly don't pay attention to anything EK says.

CHI has been a hot mess for a good few years now. I'm not sure if he's part of the problem or his stats are a result of the problem, but from a basic stats perspective he's still be able to drive and produce offense up until last season (19/20 season). But watching some games last season, he's really lost his skating ability.

What exactly is funny about it? - Grinder47
His press conferences, his personality off the ice, the trolling of the NHL with his shirts.
I'd rather see superstars with personality like Kuch, Subban, Geno, Fleury, etc. than lifeless robots like McDavid, Sid, etc. |

Gotcha. Just weird Colorado would be seriously in on him unless they dump Johnson. Makar needs a pay day and the LD already make quite a bit of money so that would be a lot of cap tied up on D. |

Yeah, I'm not sure what COL is planning. Sakic is at a crucial point now where he could make irrational panic moves because of losing to Vegas. Like EDM, their real weakness is the bottom six and that's what they should be shoring up IMO, not defense. That said, I could see them wanting to move on from Johnson. |

Having Kadri would have really helped. But with Newhook, Byram, and Timmins ready to take a step forward they should just make sure they have someone to replace Saad (Tatar) and I really think they should make a play for an elite goalie. |

I keep forgetting about Kadri. What a (frank)ing dumbpoop. He really would have been a difference-maker in that series.
I still think they're a bit top-heavy, but regardless, I don't think defense is the area where they need to put all their eggs.

Newhook and Kaut could help the forward group but yeah they need someone to score when the other team is solely focused on mackinnon. |

I was more so comparing that arm chair GM blue line to the one we had this past year. But yea I agree that if we decided to retool the bottom 4 to allocate more cap to the forwards we could run into issues. Or we could not. Something to see I guess, and running it back on the blue line is still an option so we don’t HAVE to make any moves if we don’t want to since their on ice play isn’t an issue. It just severely limits what we can do with the forwards. - Victoro311
We shouldn't just run it back. I agree, they need the cap space else where. But a bottom 4 of Marino and Matheson, who didn't play well together, and a bunch of unprovens is a disaster waiting to happen. Need another option for the 2nd pair. |

I don't remember if it was you I was speaking to about this a little while back, but looking at EDM's roster and cap situation, they were finally in a position where they could wisely build around McD and this was their first major move. I'm not shocked. - Rinosaur
Him extending Kassian on a 4 year deal over 3mill AAV was his first that made me |

Dude still hasn’t learned asset management or how to negotiate a contract. Mind boggling. And to think some Edmonton fans were happy to get him as their gm. |

I had the pleasure of watching the poop show of Detroit vs Chicago 8 times this season and Keith is absolutely unnoticeable. He just isn’t good anymore. And it’s more like Jones and 5m in cap space for Keith. Also this all but guarantees Barrie is gone. I would much rather have Barrie than Keith. - Feds91Stammer
100%, no question. I'm only speaking from a Jones/Keith swap perspective...the other factors such as cap hit, not re signing Barrie, 3rd rounder, etc make the trade worse. |

Ya, I'm not suggesting we run with that either. I'm hoping Marino had a sophomore slump. Also, I haven't seen much of Dunn so idk how good he will be either.
Do you think Marino would be a good trade candidate or would that be silly considering he's only 24? |

Wouldn’t make sense to sell low on Marino given the lack of RD depth. |

I wouldn't give up on Marino. I think he'll be a solid 2nd pair guy that we don't have to protect in the expansion draft. Dream scenario is being able to rid of Matheson and Zucker. We could use Petts as a trade piece along with Zuck. I'd give Seattle something to take Matheson. |

I guess being a drunk fool qualifies as “personality” these days. He should focus on trying to win a legit Stanley cup if you ask me. |
