Back to making absolutely no sense when you consider the alternative of 4 years at 15 million combined cap hit. Pretty sure the actual $$$ were low so may have even had the chance to dump to another team in the last year or two. - Leafs43
Final four years of the contract:
$6M
$2M
$1M
$1M |

I was actually joking (his dad played exactly one game for the Leafs).
I must confess that not counting games against the Leafs, I have watched 0.00 Wild games over the past five years.
But looking at the stats, he did not have a good year. - Atomic Wedgie
Nope he did not have a good year but is 1 year removed from having a good one.
It’s a no brainer since he will be cheap.
Both are probably staying in the US though. |

Beggars and choosers, man.
We are limited to cast offs and reclamation projects to fill out the roster.

Why would they buy them out when those are the cap hits? Is the GM insane?

imagine if the oilers had simply waited and signed Ryan Suter instead of making that absolutely insane trade for Keith? - BINGO!
That would have been ideal |

When a player is on LTIR you get to bank that cap-space during the season.
The banked cap space gets used later in the season to sign more players.
In this case it actually helped the Leafs that those players were never gonna play. They could not come back into the fold to mess up the cap. Their sole purpose was to get a higher "bank". - Nasty_Duck
I believe the cap at the time was just under 82 million, their one ice product was not over 82 million so how did that give them more cap space? |

Parise's dad is from Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario - maybe he will heed the call.

easy way for them to not have to spend more real $$$
this explains it better
67Sound
@67sound
Per
@capfriendly
, each buyout will cost roughly $6.7M in cash but count for almost $27MM against the cap. So four the next four seasons they could theoretically “spend to the cap” but be $20MM below it in cash terms. Nice way to save face and dollars. |

OK, run the numbers again with the decrease in ticket sales, and nobody in their right mind will want to watch a dead franchise for the next four years. |

Habs give Ducharme a 3 year contract extension.

I like it
Jeff Veillette
@JeffVeillette
Hard to argue with this. Montreal started the season with a 9-9 record, 57% xG Share and a +11 goal difference. Once Ducharme took over, he turned them around and led them to a 28-32 record, 50% xG Share and a -21 goal difference. Worthy of a long-term commitment. |

While I agree with you about Kucherov being most likely healthy for a while.
The NHL didn't challenge Kucherov's medical record at all, they didn't want to take that risk.
It sucks, but it's what happened. - Scabeh
So out of curiosity... Why is this the case?
My employer can absolutely request a second medical assessment, and it's not considered challenging my medical record. It's written in my union agreement.
I ask as much genuinely wondering why the NHL can't conduct their own assessment to confirm the team doctors. CBA? Players union won't allow it?
I have no horse in this race, I could care less. Just wondering. 🤷🏻♂️ |

Just in From Adam's Fiance :
The doctors are fairly confident that he will make a full recovery, they are still trying to figure out what caused it. Whether it was the stress on the body or an allergic reaction. He doesn't have any signs of permanent damage thankfully, but his recovery will range anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months based on his age and health. - bixll
Thank you for the update brother. Good news! Hoping he has a speedy recovery! |
