For once I agree with your opinion. The idea that a guy who is 36 years old will take the mindset of.. "I already made all my money" and take a Cheap deal is just a farce. A guy like Joe Thornton at 42 who is just looking for one more shot to get his name on a cup.. I could see that.. but a guy who is 36 is looking at his last $$ for him and his family. After that he will be luck to make $100k as an asst. coach or TV/Radio guy. I think they will take the most they can get for the most term. - niteislander

You are aware that the Wild will be paying him 2/3 of what was left on his contract to not play for them right? Signing a cheap deal doesn't mean they're only making their salary from that deal. So out of the $10M left on his contract, the Wild will pay him $6.66M to play for someone else, plus whatever the new team pays them. - eichiefs9
Or just take 2/3 of the deal and live a happy life after hockey. |

Maybe not. If that's the case then maybe he won't sign here. I'm not dying for him.
But if signing Parise and losing Eberle/Leddy allows the Isles to re-sign Palmieri and round out the third line then I'm intrigued at the idea, that's all. Parise posted 25-21-46pts in 69 games in the covid-shortened season, he wouldn't be some scrapheap signing. A third line of Parise-Pageau-Wahlstrom might be pretty solid. I'd rather sign Blake Coleman, but he'll be a very sought-after UFA. - eichiefs9
Blake would be nice but seems a very long shot. Wally would really benefit playing on a line with Parise and JGP. I'd rather see Wally with Barzal though. Really tough offseason. Lou has to find a way to add enough offense to get this team past Tampa. The 2nd line struggled against Tampa. Have to think that line remains intact though? |

The Wild are still going to be paying both of them plus neither of them are worth a whole heck of a lot. I’m not saying it’ll happen but if they thought the isles were a legit contender (and why wouldn’t they)and they want to win a cup they may take a short term low money contract. Depends on what their priorities are but as we’ve seen in the past sometimes it’s winning before they retire. |

Lameriello would have to work some serious cap magic. He’s done it before so who knows but I doubt it. He would be kind of redundant on this team but I would love Goodrow. Guy is awesome. |

Apart from what's already been said about the money both players will still make from Minnesota, they can want anything they like. There has to be a team willing to pay that much and it has to be a team that fits the conditions both players would like to play in. With the flat cap, many contenders aren't in a position to throw a ton of money around, and the ones that can might think twice about throwing it at 36 year olds whose current team would rather take a $14m dead-space cap hit in a couple of years than have them play there. At this point in their careers, they would be complimentary pieces to a contending team, so they wouldn't be paid like they're still centerpieces.
But, I'm surprised every day at what some GMs do, so maybe there's a jackpot payday for them out there. I just don't think it'd be shocking at all if they sign cheaper somewhere to play in a situation they'd find ideal. |

I'm shocked at the pushback from some about Parise and Suter having to take minimum or a little above minimum. They are both closer to the end of their careers at this point. It's not the time to be overly demanding in terms of price with their production and the state of the Cap. |

Because some GM will pay them more than minimum. They will take what they can get. |

Suter current salary is $11M, he has 19pts in 56 games. Leddy has 31 pts, and his hit is $5.5, I believe. Not sure what Suter will accept in new contract, but I think I’d rather keep Leddy. Plus he knows the system and is 6 yrs younger. Salary and age diff might be slightly off, but I think I’m close.
Edit: but if he’s replacing Greene (for similar comp), who I think has been perfect in his role, than I’m all in. |

Hopefully it will not be the Isles. If the idea is for Parise and Suter to get the most money Isles will be out. |

I finally read all the posts in the argument I decided to chime in on
I'll say I fall in between...I don't think they'll make league minimum, but I can't imagine either player hitting a big payday. They'll take what they can get, agreed. I think that number's pretty low...Suter's a bit higher than Parise's.
Maybe we'll see how far apart we are by saying what we think they'll get. I'll go with $1m-$2.3m: Suter a little closer to the upper range; Parise right near the bottom of that range. |

Andy Greene made $2.7M (I believe) w performance bonuses. I think Suter commands closer to $3.4M in a structured deal. |

If either player hits it big and in this environment then time to close down the NHL.
