Hyman turned down 5mil from the leafs, have a feeling he will get at least 5.5 or 6 elsewhere. |

Contracts aside, I feel like losing Rust and Zucker to gain Tatar and Hyman is a pretty lateral move. Of course if you get a good trade return for either player, you could make the case that it is the better long term move.
That said, I would still focus on Saad or Coleman, and if going a trade route....I think we need to go big to make a tangible impact...Bertuzzi, Tkachuk, Landeskog, etc. |

What was the term he was offered? I'd think he would leave $500K on the table to play in a city he'd like to stay in, so unless it was bad term I'd think he just wants out of TOR.

The mega moving parts rout is the rout that we actually need to go. I don't know how possible it is, but generally speaking to improve from last year, we need a top 6 LW that fits better with Malkin because Sullivan refuses to swap Guentzel and Zucker, and we need one more top 9 forward who's preferably a right shot, but definitely has to be able to play the right side. Moving out Zucker and Rust just to replace them one for one still leaves us with at least one hole in the top 9.
A way to do this without trying to make a bagilion moves would be the perfect storm of offloading Petterson or Matheson in the expansion draft, having Tatar come in way under value to play Malkin's left, and keeping Zucker to reunite the McCann-Carter-Zucker line that looked really effective while Malkin was out.
If we decide to move Zucker regardless and replace him one for one with Saad or Tatar, I'm happy to add Hyman to the list of interesting top 9 RW options to add, but like Coleman, A) I don't know if he'll be affordable, and B) signing him at the expense of moving Rust is way too lateral. |

I don't see any team taking either Matheson or Zucker without returning a similar contract. Especially Matheson, because he is due much higher salary in his remaining years than his actual cap hit. |

I agree. How old is Hyman? If he's younger, I'd rather trade Rust and sign him. Although, Rust did well on the pp last year right? |

Hyman is a good player. Having watched him closely for a few years I can tell you he works his butt off every shift, has decent hands in tight and is responsible defensively. He may be one of the best forecheckers in the NHL. Babcock thought he was THE best.
He does not however have first line skill. He earns everything he gets through hard work and because he is a plugger is always on the ice when the Leafs are protecting a lead late in the game. Therefore , if you look at his numbers he gets a lot of empty net goals.
Just so you know what you might be getting. |

Rust stuck around in this exercise, one of the reasons I'm for it. |

The goal was to keep Rust while adding Hyman and Tatar. |

Yeah I think we need to hope like hell Zucker gets taken in expansion if the plan is to move on from him. Otherwise Hextall and Burke need to do a really good job of returning a player that will be both useful and have good value against their cap in a Zucker trade. Trading Zucker and getting back Nick Spalling-eque cap filler is a nightmare scenario for us given where we are.
EDIT: That was in response to Burgh4Life |

Tatar seems like a good fit for Geno...I've always thought Geno does better with Euro wingers than Sid does, Hossa aside of course haha

I agree and that is my biggest fear as well. I don't want to see Zucker traded for a package centering around a Kassian type either.
Edit: I just saw Rossi is predicting on the Athletic that Zucker gets taken in the expansion. So it isn't happening. |

So what's Suter going to sign for a wonder. I could see HexBurke being intrigued by him. Pens obviously have to shed other D-men before thinking about this though. I wouldnt mind him in the bottom 4. Like if they could get him for a contract similar to Ceci's last season I'd have no problem with it.

I honestly can't believe the Wild would buy out Suter... I get Parise, but buying out Suter? Was he refusing to waive a NTC or something?
Pens absolutely need to ditch Pettersson and/or Matheson and get him signed. He would be an amazing add for the Pens. Heck, if they want to go somewhere together to win a cup and spite Minnesota, I think we could find a way to do it.

Gotta be NMC related on Suter. But they don’t really have more than 4 forwards worth protecting. Very weird. Maybe Billy G thinks it’s a compliance buyout. |

Man, Holland must be kicking himself. He missed out on being able to sign Suter long-term. |

Here it is from Russo “ The Wild will pay each $6.7 million over the next eight years and be charged with $2.371 million, $6.371 million and $7.371 million cap hits in the next four years, respectively, for each, then $833,333 cap hits the four years after that for each.”
The fact they’ll be making 6.7M for next 8 years should allow them to take less money. |

I'd sign Suter if he'd come at a friendly contract |
