No I think it’s for players that sign contracts that take them past 35 years. I think Kovalchuck was like 27 when he signed the Jersey contract that sparked all this. - Victoro311
Cap recapture doesn't have anything to do with the 35+ rule
If a team has paid out more total cash than the cap hit that's been charged, that had to be accounted for if that player retires
*unless he's allergic to his equipment... then it gets forgiven
5 year 30 million contract but player retires after 3 years (Cap hit 6 Million)
year 1 - 10 million
year 2 - 8 million
year 3 - 6 million
year 4 - 4 million
year 5 - 2 million
He's made 24 million over 3 years but only ate up 18 million worth of cap hits. If he retires, that 6 million in "advantage" is accounted for via "recapture"

Who besides Weber? Are you insinuating that Sid will retire before his contract is up? The rest of those guys only have one or two years of term left. - Victoro311

Gotcha - Victoro311
I don't think they can structure contracts like that anymore with the big salary swing, but for illustration purposes, that points out how it works
EDIT
It would be 8-8-6-4-4 and would result in a 4 million "recapture" charge if the player retired after year 3 |

Didn't someone else, I want to say Philly, actually give him that deal as a RFA knowing how bad it was in the hope Nashville wouldn't match? |

Haha either way the league already allowed Hossa, Franzen, and Zetterberg to LTIRetire so probably nothing to see here. |

Yah. Holmgren thought that their bank account would force the smaller market Nashville to balk at the offer sheet. |

Unless he goes the Luongo route. I think in that case it was better for Florida if he just retired but worse for Vancouver. |

Counting on overaged kids from the Q to jump in to the top line is not something you do during the last two or three so years of the Crosby/Malkin Era. - Victoro311
There are plenty of wingers who can play top line already. Sort of why I said we need to move some. Guentzel playing top line a few years ago would have been considered insane. Stop pushing for old overpaid stiffs and hope for energy and youth to be injected at some points. |

Guentzel wasn't penciled into the top line at the start of the season. He came in, tore up the AHL, and earned a promotion to the 4th line of the big club before being moved up further. If Poulin and/or Legare make the jump to the AHL and look legit, then by all means, but you do not pensile in 20 year old Q players who's stats aren't that impressive for being 20 year old Q players into the NHL roster to begin with, let alone the top 6.
And what exactly do you mean by plenty of guys? Minus Rust we have Guentzel (obvious), Zucker who can't seem to click with Malkin so is void, and then McCann and Kapanen who are more middle six than top 6. And then even assuming you make all four of those guys the top 6 wingers, which would be mediocre as poop, you have nothing for Carter's third line.
Also lol at calling at calling a 29-year-old 20+ goal, 40+point speedster an old stiff. |

I assumed you'd be in on Zach Hyman. I guess a fight a season isn't quite enough to get you on board. |

What about Nick Ritchie? I seen some Boston fan put him up for Pettersson. Isn't he a type of guy Hextall likes? |

He's definitely of the long pants variety. Not sure what it will cost to extend him, but I'd definitely look in to that swap.
I even think the Pens could squeeze a pick on top of Ritchie. |

He's a RFA. Not sure what his next contract will be but he only put up 16 goals. I guess with a shortened season it still equats to around 4-5 million if not more? |

IMO he's in the same realm as Tanev. If he costs over $3M I wouldn't trade for him.

Tanev’s contract is a steal. Any scenario you guys propose that involves Sullivan Burke and Hextall thinking about losing Tanev is s non starter because none of those guys are thinking “let’s get rid of Tanev”. It’s that simple. Yet everyday “we trade tanev”. |

I don’t think anyone really mentions that besides RW and Boyd. |
