I don’t think anyone really mentions that besides RW and Boyd. - Victoro311
2 too many. Playing Tanev with Sid and trading Rust + for an upgrade to play with Malkin would be more beneficial than the nonsense spewed in this blog. Sid has his sidekick on Guentzel, those two don’t need a bonafide offense machine to play with. Jake Sid Rust sucked for the last 3rd of the season anyhow. |

There are plenty of wingers who can play top line already. Sort of why I said we need to move some. Guentzel playing top line a few years ago would have been considered insane. Stop pushing for old overpaid stiffs and hope for energy and youth to be injected at some points. - VoiceofLange
We don't have any blue chip prospects, so whoever you want to give a shot to should start out lower down the line-up and try to work their way up.
Malkin out will open up a forward spot to start the season, but it should be a 3rd/4th line spot. |

I'm not really in the Tanev must be traded boat, but his contract definitely sucks for what he brings. I think there are other contracts that I'd prefer to get out of:
Zucker
Matheson
Jarry
Pettersson
Tanev
I think you can get what Tanev brings for cheaper than 3.5m for 5yrs.
would probably be the order I'd prefer to get rid of, Tanev being the least that I want to move. |

I agree with that list, although I may have Matheson above Zucker but that's just splitting hairs haha. |

I don't even think Zucker is that bad a player, I just think that he has poop chemistry with Geno and Sully won't play him with Sid. So they should trade him and find someone who will play well with Geno if Sid gets to keep Guentzel. |

Gotcha, and yea that makes complete sense. We could have been way better off with Zuck and Guentz swapped. McCann was pretty good with Carter too I believe. |

Honestly, I wouldn't have minded him trying McCann with Geno. McCann is a shooter and a quality shooter at that. Gives Geno a shooter and a rush scorer in Kap. |

Yeah the Habs scored 1 goal or less in 3 of the 5 finals games including 0 in the elimination game... They definitely couldn't of used more scoring touch... - MattStrat

I'd target Hyman and Saad (maybe Tatar) at forward and Suter on defense. Suter would be a good defensive partner for Marino.
Crazy how close we came to getting Suter and Parise years ago... probably would've costed us 2016 and 2017, but maybe we win it in 2013 or 2014? |

4th period says Kings are looking for another top 6 wing 🤔 I wonder who may have one of those to spare |

I agree with you. The only guys I wouldn't move for the right price are Crosby and Malkin, but Tanev isn't high up on my priority list of guys I want to move. I would say that Tanev is the guy I'd be most willing to move out of the guys I don't really want to move, but there's a really big gap between Zucker/Matheson/Jarry/Pettersson and him in my opinion. There's probably another big gap between him and the next tranche of guys in ZAR/Blueger/McCann, though. |

The real drivers of that McCann-Carter-Zucker line were actually Carter and Zucker. Those two had really visible chemistry and I think McCann was pretty replaceable on that line. If Zucker stays, I want him on Carter's line. McCann-Geno-Kapanen were a pretty darn good line themselves too.
We really don't NEED to move Zucker, it all boils down to how stubborn Sullivan wants to be. |

Rust and Pettersson for some draft picks. I like Rust but why not trade him now and use his cap for a younger top 6? |

Too difficult an idea.
How are you going to acquire the younger top 6? With middling draft picks? That move is dependent on the first trade.
Pens are a better team with Rust and adding on top of him. |

You don't think Rust and Pettersson are worth a 2nd and 3rd?
I'm just looking at the bigger picture if Rust walks for nothing next year.

In theory if we traded Rust and added someone else who panned out well, the Pens would wish they had a 1st to acquire someone like Rust at the deadline to put them over the top.
Boyd is right, you add ontop of Rust in one of Sid and Geno’s last years. If he walks for nothing then oh well. A couple of picks don’t have a high probably of accelerating the rebuild. |

If they could move Matheson, I might even keep Pettersson. I'm open to upgrading on him, but he's solid with Marino.
Marino w/ Pettersson: 51.27 xGF in 427 min
Pettersson without: 51.97 xGF in 449 min
Marino without: 44.72 xGF in 286 min
Marino w/ Matheson: 44.38 xGF in 245 min
Dropping a LHD for cap space is a move they need to make, but they could do worse then Pettersson.
