Did those teams that left guys on ltir benefit from it? There is your answer. Habs don't benefit. Molson has enough money they could find a backdoor to help make Weber whole while he plays along if needed. Long and short it isn't up to Weber alone, it's up to the team and docs too. Then there's the league docs

If there are cap implication for the Habs if Weber retires (which I believe are minimal, but do exist - just cannot find the link right now), then yes, Ltir is better.

Friedman specifically said the Habs are waiting on a ruling from the league on this which while unusual I will trust his comments and wait until that ruling or other information becomes available. The rest is just conjecture

FINE. Ignore that 1% chance that dude with no inside information is wrong.

I just won't take that risk.

Barrie led all defensemen in scoring and was on 0 ballots for the Norris.

As much as I really like Weber, it would be to Montreal's benefit if they figure this out soon, and know if he's done, or out for a year plus. Done means go land a new defenseman ( my first choice being Hamilton, maybe Jones, though I know other teams will push to get them to). Year plus is troublesome. Yes he could come back for the playoffs, but at a cap hit over 7.5 million, you can't sign any other top end defenseman past next year without huge cap implications from next year on if Weber comes back. You can't just drop one or 2 small contracts and make it all work. So if he has a future, I think they can only find a fill in role defenseman for the next year, which means good luck getting to the playoffs. I hate to say it, but him hanging them up ( or ltir) might make for the easiest terms moving forward for Montreal 😭😭😭

Oh he's not good defensively. You have to learn to live with his mistakes to benefit from his production.

But we do need help on the powerplay.

And that he can do.

Any fan of hockey would know this.

So a 6th defenceman that is paid $$$$$, but plays 10 mins a game.

Got it.

I know you all want him and need to talk him up, but if McDavid isn't on the PP with him he doesn't add much

of course he benefited from playing in EDM, but he still lead the league in scoring. you said it yourself. if he was good in his zone he'd make 10M.

How much was Barrie paid last season?

And he's better than Gustafsson at about everything.

Not being in Edmonton will be the reason he doesn't lead d in scoring.

Edmonton found that out with Souray

Well he had good offensive numbers everywhere but one place.

Maybe because they didn't use their powerplay specialist on their first powerplay wave.

Maybe.
