Hard no. - Marwood
Even Nighthawk, who is championing the effort to sign Hyman, draws the line at 4.5 for 4 years. |

Told Gabriel Landeskog could be asking for a salary that pays in the range of $9-$10M in the open market. He’s willing to give Colorado a hometown discount but the Avs will need to up from their last offer which came in in the $5-$6 range on a 8 yr term. |

Cash is dropping so term is the new thing. Very consistent player is Hyman. Good he would be here. Would be good to take a stab. Try not...'do'...or do not...there is no try. - LordHumungous
If the Canucks are going down the free agent route, I would prefer them to go after defense and a 3rd line centre. |

sign landeskog and larsson.
jtm moves to 3c. (i'm just going to ignore the fact that he was upset when tbay tried to move him down the lineup.)
easy peasy. |

That Rantanen contract signing from 2 years ago, at 9.25, is biting them in the butt.
It is why I don't believe you should ever be paying huge dollars on a 2nd contract. |

He's one of the most respected players in the league, he doesn't belong on a 3rd line. |

Looks like they made some bad decisions . Not a good look letting the captain walk away for free.

Now shore up D and sign some short term show me contracts for forwards with upside. |

tldr: keep tight control of your cap with the bottom players so you have a cushion to overpay your stars.
i'm not totally with you on this point but i see what you're saying. i'll preface my opinion by (being a weasel) and saying that every situation and team's cap is unique so i'm not proposing a hard and fast rule.
as a general strategy, i'm always of the opinion that it's okay to slightly overpay your stars to keep them happy. in order to accommodate this, you have to be vigilant in keeping all the other salaries in relative "order."
for example (and i'm not using these amounts as my limits), depending on term, EP should get $7m. i think we could say that's a fair amount. if he signs for $500K more than that, it's overpayment but that's okay. he's a star for the team and if you expect him to drive the bus, it's okay for him to get a little padded salary.
a team can afford to do that with its stars as long as its roster isn't filled with several players who are making $500-$1m more than they deserve. that cushion shouldn't be going to jobbers because it makes the team have to play hardball with the stars. secondly, there are fewer stars so even though it looks like they are screwing the cap with their big salaries, if you dig deeper, it's usually in combination with many players who are getting paid than they are worth. it's usually those players who fcuk the cap more than the stars although the stars with the big salaries are easier to point to.
every 3rd and 4th liner who makes slightly more than should adds up. and then when you have to make big commitments to cap (for stars), it's then you have to start saving your nickels. and then the gm has to start grinding the stars in negotiations. this is ass backwards. spend more on luxury to ensure quality but find value in all other respects.
anyway, i'm not sure this applies specifically to the col situation but it's my general view on cap. |

lol it actually is remarkably easy if you know the game well enough. Don't think JTM is a good fit at 3C. Keep him top 6 and use accordingly. I mean now hard can it be to be a GM right? - LordHumungous

Climate change: what do 98% of climate scientists know. i've watched some youtube videos so i'm comfortable in discrediting them and proclaiming i know better.
Healthcare: Vaccines? LOL, what do doctors and immunologists know? lol, they are just trying to make money and control you.
Sports: Fair? Lol, you're naive. These things are controlled at the highest levels and are fixed for certain outcomes by refs and the league.... (but i'll still bet on them.)
and then finally...
Hockey: you think you know more than professionals that are paid to work in the game? LOL. you're so naive to think that you know more than people who do this for a living. LOL - I mean now hard can it be to be a GM right?

That’s retarded, giving an eight year contract to a 29 year old player will only bite you in the ass down the road. Sakic would be wise to tell him to go fu ck his hat....five years or get lost. |

All fair points.
As I have stated a few times, I am not a proponent of the cap, but it is here so we live with it.
The cap hasn't done everything that it was supposedly intended to do, as GM's around the league still spend money foolishly.
Using the Colorado example, the teams 3rd best forward, is getting paid appropriately 3 million more than the teams best player and arguably, the best player in the world.
How you fix that, I am not sure, but somehow tying salary to cap percentage might be one way to do that. It would mean that player x with a cap of 7 million, when signed, gets a pay increase, when cap goes up, and if it goes down, they get a reduction in salary.
They have a maximum on top cap %, but no amount of player limits that can be in the top bracket of cap dollars, ie; Toronto, Tampa and Vegas.
Yet you have 2 of the top 5 teams in the league, in Boston and the Islanders who have a reasonable structure in regard to cap allocation.
The cap has create a situation where decent players are scraping for the scraps of the cap dollars, which is wrong, IMO, when these players are very important to team success, all because of your slight overpayment to the top players you are mentioning.
I know. TLDR |
