Just speculating…
With us not having to worry about losing much to the Kracken I can envision Francis eluding to taking Holtby. If it’s Lind & JB is high on him then a minor side deal. More likely is JB wants to deal for a player from another team with protection issues & it needs some collaboration with Francis.
Holtby would free up cap for a bigger reshuffle - Nighthawk
Dhaliwal said a few teams are after Holtby and one team that have interest is Seattle , for a draft and trade so they get the assets. Problem is the teams wont trade with Vancouver first because of the protection list. Either way it sounds like he will be gone soon.

I haven’t delved into the entire leagues needs & protection lists enough. It’s a juggle to figure out to say the least. The e-draft coming 1st & soon tells me there will be a ton of moves coming & after it’s done a ton more. Could easily be the busiest offseason in history. |

Say a team like Philly or Edmonton that have a goalie and want a reliable back up like Holtby but if they trade for him now they would need to expose him for the draft. They will trade for him after the E Draft

Possible yes. The roster juggles are definitely in the works. The e-draft dominos will impact everything. |

Canucks will probably announce Petey and Hughes signing after the draft. After seeing Carlo's deal it would be nice if Hughes had a deal similar. I really am not a fan of signing him at 6 with as many faults as he has.

Are the Trumps still a thing? They are essentially the Kardashians of American politics. |

You like the jersey ?
There was a post on Twitter that was pretty funny. It had the Vancouver Giants third uniform that looks like Abbotsford Jersey and Jim in the white one and the caption was who wore it better?

The End
The Goaltender Side Deal Scenario
We get to the fourth scenario and this one is the most straightforward to unpack, feels the most likely overall and is by far the most attractive from Vancouver’s perspective:
The Pittsburgh Penguins trade a future second-round pick to Vegas in exchange for the Golden Knights selecting Marc-Andre Fleury.
It’s easy to forget that Fleury was at a very different stage in his career in 2017. He’d lost his starting job in the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs, and then struggled mightily the subsequent season, posting an uncharacteristically low .909 save percentage while appearing in only 38 games. He had two years remaining on a contract that carried a $5.75 million cap hit and exactly that amount of cash per season as well.
Holtby has struggled more than Fleury, but he has a similar pedigree and marketing appeal for an upstart franchise and also has only one year remaining on his contract ($4.3 million AAV, $5.7 million in actual salary).
If Vancouver could recreate this deal with the Kraken in the expansion process, part with a second-round pick in a subsequent season in exchange for steering Seattle toward Holtby and lock in $4.3 million in cap savings in the expansion process while saving closer to $6 million in real cash, that would have to be an absolute no-brainer for Canucks hockey operations. - LeftCoaster
Cheers for that.
Can’t say any of the deals appealed to me except this last one re adding a 2nd rounder to take Holtby. |

Well on CF so many ACGM’s give him too much. His defensive shortcomings should save money.
I like 2/5.5m
1st year 4.5m
2nd tear 6.5m
QO later is 6.5m
Let him continue to improve & earn the next bigger pay day. |

Too much to add imo. Rather keep him. |

He’s a fine backup.
It’s the freed up cap space to add another Dman that is appealing |

Canucks save real money but would still spend cap on a backup.
Depends on choices I guess. |

Lefty I read through all of that and I don't think any of it applies much to the Canucks.
For example, the Canucks most egregious deal is LE's. It expires after one year so moving 3 assets is a non-starter. (time heals all wounds) They also don't have to persuade Seattle to select Holtby, it also expires after one year.
I'd be more in the camp of having Seattle take one of our $6M dmen, of which neither are worthy of that contract especially as it ages IMO. I'd rather them give us an asset if possible or ship them elsewhere for one. If not, i'm fine with exposing either of them and having them vanish from our future cap. |

Same. Huge mistake signing if we have to use a 2nd to get rid of him. Even for the cap gain... short term gain for long term loss. Just ride it out for another year with the rest of the garbage contracts.

If there's that much interest, I wonder if the price could drop a little... trade a 3rd for Seattle to take him, then Seattle can flip him to another team for another asset or two post draft.
Those two assets are probably worth more than a Highmore, Lind, MacEwen anyways... |

I guess it’s a cost benefit analysis of dumping Holtby vs potentially gaining cap space to acquire another asset.
All speculation. |

Rumor is that Seattle is interested in him, as with other teams. Doesn't sound like we need to pay to get rid of him. |
