If there's that much interest, I wonder if the price could drop a little... trade a 3rd for Seattle to take him, then Seattle can flip him to another team for another asset or two post draft.

Those two assets are probably worth more than a Highmore, Lind, MacEwen anyways...

- NewYorkNuck

Yeah I was thinking that too.
Seattle could retain a bit of salary and get back better assets.

Is that known as pick and flick or more pump n dump?

Needs another year or 2 of seasoning. If JB makes a hockey trade or get a pick for Holtby then I could live with it.

Rumor is that Seattle is interested in him, as with other teams. Doesn't sound like we need to pay to get rid of him.
- Retinalz

The article lefty posted had us giving up a second to get rid of him... If we can get rid of him for free or a minor asset back for sure then! Should be easy enough to find an equivalent back up for cheaper or use MDP if he is ready (not sure on that). I would be surprised if anyone was really interested in giving up assets for Holtby with his current contract.

Maybe at the TDL someone would give up a late round pick

There a still a couple teams without a goalie signed for next season, Boston being one of them, they may want a veteran, while Rask recovers from surgery, to mentor young Swayman.
Holtby might be the guy, as Rask is out until March or so, if he doesn't just retire.

Thanks Carol!

I guess 200’ of game isn’t enough to keep Sutts as a Canuck. Hopefully they can find someone who can play 201’.

I know nothing of rookies.
Is he likely ready to step in to the show year 1 or need some seasoning?

I think they changed the rule that QO is same as AAV
- VANTEL

I think it’s based on salary. Sub $2m you have to qualify at 110% but over that it’s 100%. Might not be exactly $2m, but it’s around there I think.

Yeah contracts signed after July 1 2020 no longer have to be the amount of the last year as the QO. IT is the AAV unless under 2 mil which Hughes would not be so if his AAV was 5.5 and his last year was 6.5 his QO would be 5.5. It was a change made at the last CBA before the Bubble.

Boston has no NHL goalie signed? That’s a big no-no, they have to expose one.

Trading a 2nd to get rid of Holtby is insane. First of all, his play nor his contract warrant it. Second of all, it's absolutely insane asset management.

Guess what, if you have to make that deal to save your job you don't deserve it in the first place. Spend the next 9 months sweet talking the owner instead and writing him personal cheques if you have to. A 2nd round pick to rid yourself of Holtby for 1 year? Ridiculous.

They should expose Myers and holtby and hope one gets claimed, not paying an asset for them to take one. It's crazy thay Benning and management think protecting Myers is a right call.

It's actually kind of funny reading why we should trade assets to create cap space to the same GM that handed out these bad deals can have the ability to do so again.

Just (frank)ing bite the bullet or gain some assets while creating space. Or, maybe Seattle just selects one of your overpaid Dmen because they have the cap space.

It's not like there won't be FA's again next offseason when the cap sorts itself out a bit. There will likely be bargains again.

Absolutely. I'm not in on the inner GM's circle but i'd let any of Holtby, Myers, Schmidt walk for an asset or free if necessary.

I'd pay a small price to ride myself of LE, Roussel, Beagle. If not, suck it up. I can't imagine trading a 2nd round pick to rid myself of any of those contracts aside from LE's.

Rangers @ 25:1 to win the cup, potential landing spot for trade/FA with a bunch of cap space. For you bit coin traders this could be a big payday…

there are a lot of crazy things being bantered about.

I guess I'm a bit crazy also because I would keep Myers..🤷‍♂️

I agree that no asset should be attached to any team wanting any Canuck player right now.

The poopty contracts are finished in a year. Holtby is either selected or kept, he plays as a back up and improves or doesn't play.
