If we trade Buch the RW’s would be Kakko Kravtsov Gauthier. I’m 100% good going into the season with that.

I like it.

I mean, I like Buch too, but this would be cheaper and probably as effective if not more.

I think unfortunately Buch has priced himself out of NY. As long as Kakko can take that next step on the top line we’ll be fine. Only thing I’d like to see Gauthier do more is use his size. He’s 6’4 230 but plays like he’s 6’ 190 sometimes.

He's got that Rick Nash thing where he's a really big guy but doesn't use it as often as you'd like. He's probably more of a finesse player than a true power forward, but if you can convince him to throw his weight around more he could be an absolute bulldozer.

He started to play more physical and driving to the net a little more and then Quinn just benched him for pretty much the rest of the season to play the great Brett Howden and Colin Blackwell instead.

Serious question, how long do u think the Islanders have before they need to rebuild. They’re an older team and from what I see the prospect pool looks a little dry and you guys have given up a lot of picks recently in trades. I see a 1-2 year window left for u guys but maybe that’s just outside looking in.

In his extremely limited time on the ice, he was driving to the net constantly. I think you are wrong. He was caught in the DQ's I must play my big name players.

Look at the post below that. I said he began playing more physical and consistent then DQ benched him.

Yeah I saw that after I posted.

So why did you say he needs to play bigger when you admit he drives to the net?

More consistency. And even though he began driving to the net more and I noticed him in the corners more I’d like to see a little more hitting. I think he’d make a great 3rd line if Gallant could get Gauthier and Kreider to throw there body around more and wear other teams down.

Wonder if OEL gets moved. Supposedly Ari will retain salary. Still a tough one with him being 29 and 6 years left on that deal. Could see him thriving in a better environment though.

He only got 8 minutes of ice time with the 4th line, not much time to prove himself. I hope he stays and blows up this season as a (frank) you to DQ.

None of their core players are really "old", but they're not young either. Barzal/Beau/Dobson/Wahlstrom all figure to be large parts of the future of the team. Pelech and Pulock are both only 26, they have at least another solid 6 years in them before I'd expect to see any significant decline in their play.

Ask me at the start of the season after this wacky summer plays out and I'll have a more confident answer, but I don't see any reason at the moment as to why they won't be a competitive team for way longer than the 1-2 years you're thinking.

The prospect cupboard isn't bare, but it is definitely thin. Bolduc had an outstanding first pro year in that weird limited AHL season. Salo is signed and he was a very good defenseman playing in the SHL at 22 last season, probably not ready for the NHL but I think he's going to be a player. Golyshev came over from Russia, he's a bit of a wild card but there's talent there. I think Dufours is going to be a kid to watch. He's a big, goal-scoring winger. Gonna be awhile before he's sniffing around an NHL roster though. I don't like the way they've generally drafted in the last two drafts though.

I just look at Bailey Nelson Leddy Eberle Lee (Martin Cizikas Cal best 4th line in hockey) all over 30 with Pageau only a year from 30 and think they’re best hockey days are likely behind them within the next year or 2. Obviously trades can be made but the core of the team is 30+. No 1st or 2nd last year, no 1st this year. Bolduc looks promising but defense isn’t your guys problem and I don’t see any studs in the prospect pool at forward.

They are so desperate to get rid of him. 3 straight years of 10.5 mil in salary coming up.

There isn’t a chance in hell we will be happy with the ice time all the wingers get around here

And then people wanna sign guys like Coleman and Goodrow on top of it

Exactly why I don’t want the NYR to make any big signings this off-season whether it’s Landeskog or trading for Eichel. Rosters with multiple 8-9+ million guys on top of Panarins 11 will kill us in a year or 2.
- nyrangers9479

Sharks need to rebuild with picks, prospects and cheap contracts that Rangers could provide in trade. Hertl is 28, one year left at $5.6, so he'll need a new contract if the Rangers acquire him, and that won't be cheap. I don't see any good, young, centers being traded who aren't going to take up a big chunk of the cap, either immediately, or soon after being acquired.

There's no doubt they're an older team, but their play isn't predicated on out-'skilling' opponents. They know their limitations and they play a system that limits other teams from being able to exploit them.

Goodrow is a 4th line player that could move up if needed. I don’t see Coleman as a fit anymore, I think he’ll be to pricey for what we would use him for.

Hertl at 7-8 per as a 2C? Sign me up. The next question that we don’t need to figure out just yet but the decision is looming is what to do with Zib. He will be 29 at the start of his next contract taking him to 35-36 and will want a long term deal probably in the ballpark of 10 million per. With his injury history and age would we be better off moving on and trading him? Not sure there’s a right answer there.

Right now yes. But age and contracts factor into that. Do we want to pay Goodrow 3.5 million or Gauthier 775k?

I think the hatred of Quinn has turned Gauthier into a mythical player.

But isn’t the whole point of firing JD and Gorton was that they wanted to stay the course and Dolan wanted to get better immediately?
