I'd stay away from both Columbus' goalies after what happened last week. Their minds could be a trainwreck dealing with all those emotions (rightfully so).
We already know what it is like to deal with a goalie that is struggling mentally |

It was a horrible tragedy that happened to Matiss... but don't you think that should be enough time for these guys to get their heads back in the game? |

And Elvis and the poor kid that lost his life were really close. It sounds callus, but I’d stay away from Elvis. He’s going to be dealing with some poop… and I don’t blame him. |

Elvis also specifically called out the Sabres for being bad last season lol |

Or they both play their cock$ off and dedicate an incredible season to their fallen teammate. |

With about 20 hours to go until expansion protected lists are due, the #Isles currently have no eligible defensemen to leave unprotected -- each team must have at least one signed D who played 27 NHL games last season on the unprotected list.
So there's another move coming. - Stripes77
Strange tweet. They have D who meet the requirement, but they want to protect them.

Especially for Merzlikins I'm not sure that's something you just shrug off in a few months with his pregnant wife right there with him.
Could be like Cougar and his encounter with the Mig while Maverick was off (frank)ing around. |

Isn't the following also factually incorrect as well?
each team must have at least one signed D who played 27 NHL games last season on the unprotected list

They look very straight forward, unless I'm missing something.

Yes, and that's tripping people up in the comments too. It's entertaining.

Based on first hand experience, I feel they should be alright. Dealing the death never fully goes away but you learn to live with it. I don't see how these guys could let it affect them so much it hurts their performance two months from now. If this happened mid season it's a different story, but they have months to deal with it. |

If Sabres don’t trade risto before the freeze it’s idiotic unless there’s no trade market for him. Protecting him and losing Borgen or not protecting him and losing him for nothing is stupid and very Sabre-like. Trading Risto for a goalie (that another team can’t protect) makes too much sense.
Granted, hopefully the Sabres have a deal in place with Sea for them to take Miller or Okposo and we send them a late pick. That would be savvy and very unSabre-like.
Could be very possible that the Sabres have deals in place to trade mbumhole, reinpersonalityless and Ristoiamdrago after the freeze is lifted as the buying team doesn’t have room to protect them now while the Sabres do??
One can only hope |

Cutting a deal with Sea, then dealing Risto after the freeze seems like the most likely path here.
Trading a for a G also makes sense. Forcing these moves together seems unlikely.
