I would assume Owen Power will be a Buffalo Sabre so it’s all for not but I think Clarke has the highest upside of any d-man in the draft class.
Time will tell I guess - Pegullaville

Off topic...Will we know of the FA signings from the Kracken's early window in real time or will they be revealed only on the Ex-draft day? I realize there may be leaked info, but will there be "official" statements? |

NJ still open for business, but looks like after expansion draft know. - Buff36
I wouldn’t mind seeing a Risto deal but it probably isn’t happening which is fine, I just don’t really want to lose Borgen.
You’d still think Adams should be pushing for a goalie with an open protection spot.
I’ve seen mocks with Seattle taking 3 goalies in the expansion draft. You’d think those team might want a 3rd vs. lose for nothing… |

Friedman and Marek on 31TP see the #STLBlues as the #1 contender to sign Gabriel Landeskog if the Avs decide to let him walk. He is very tight with Ryan O'Reilly. - Stripes77

from what i've read he gets burned by speed
Clarke can work on the backward skating, and surely whichever NHL team drafts him will seek to do that. The source also made the point that, beyond the technique, there are some tactical decisions Clarke could make to help cover any remaining weakness, too.
“Any time somebody has more speed than him and he’s in a disadvantage, that’s when he gets exposed,” the source said. “So, if he can skate faster forward than he can backwards, try and defend forward as much as (he can).

The concern on Clarke is his skating as he’s a somewhat knock-kneed skater without great quickness. He defends well in junior due to his sense and having decent reach, but the pace will be a concern in that regard as he advances levels. In a sentence, Clarke projects as a second or third defenseman who can be on a top NHL power-play unit but may not be able to face top opponents

why not just go eklund/huges at 1/3? - Michael Pachla
Yeah Morgan Reilly isn’t all that great defensively either. I’m hoping with time Clarke would improve his backwards skating mobility but it’s definitely a cause for concern that can see him land right into LA’s lap which would be a perfect fit for both team and player |

This needs to happen, no excuses not to. As you said, the market you're playing against is offering nothing. Offer something, profit. |

Make sure the fax machine is plugged in.
At the end of the day, we don’t have 1 NHL goalie! There is zero reason not throw a 4th or 3rd at a team, even for a backup goalie at this point… |

It's a lot to overcome against the best players in the world. Eight is probably a good spot for him. Three, for me, is too high |

Hot take, Morgan Reilly is Rasmus Ristolainen on a good team. So if that’s Clarke, good luck to anyone that takes him. |

Owen Power struggles as well against speed defensively.
It wasn’t as evident at the World Championship’s because they are playing on the bigger ice service but it came up frequently when watching Michigan.
Will Scouch touches on it here as well if you want video examples:

The reason why I’m lower than Power then most is because I feel he has the same flaws if not more than the other d-men in this draft but gets a pass because he’s tall.
Idk about you but I watched Risto for 8 years and because he looked like Thor it didn’t really mean much

Eklund is my favorite. Am also a fan of beniers and think hughes could turn into something special if allowed to develop properly.
Edit: after watching the first 15 mins or so of that vid (which was plenty to get the idea) i actually like power a bit more. Nearly everything that guy talked about can be corrected or improved upon |

Check out this shift by shift footage of Brandt Clarke playing in Slovakia against men.

This kid is darn good. His shift that starts at 2:30 in the clip is outstanding! That's just one of many. He'll do just fine in the NHL. Clarke's style reminds me of Erik Karlsson who slipped to #15 in his draft year. |

Every team is going to have a different draft board. It’s so wide open this year.
I wouldn’t hesitate to take him as high as 3rd overall.
I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him fall into the 8-10 range either due to scouts not being able to get over his stride.
