Ellis and girardi have "tremendous hockey experience" said meatballs..."they were able to help me and help us convey our message to the players, excite the players, be part of it..."
the "meatballs-effect" of he and his staff on the team when he took over:
"the psyche was real damaged. we didn't believe, we didn't see how we could win, we felt vulnerable...we convinced ourselves we were vulnerable and we even saw our vulnerabilities...
"i wanted to challenge the psyche...i looked around the locker room, i watched these guys skate, they're incredible, they're fierce, they're physical specimens...the strongest and the weakest thing in your body is your mind and we need to acknowledge that...
"do we need to win to believe?...or can you believe before you win?...
"again, the belief system wasn't there and i challenged our guys...we don't need to win to believe, to manage our psyche...and they embraced that...
"it's easy for me to say that but what we had to do, and here is where i compliment the whole staff, lack of confidence and a damaged psyche - Michael Pachla[means] there's no vision...they don't see how they can win, how they can imprint the game with their skill-set, their talent individually or collectively...
"confidence, i guess, is a belief that you can do it but maybe not a vision and we needed to get to a real conviction that we could do this, a clear, a vision of how we were going to do it...
"and that's where i think the staff was incredible"

Good stuff Pach.
It occurs to me that his comments support the claim that the organization had no vision for who they are and no (few) players had a self-identity on how they fit that overall vision.
Sounds like Meatballs-The Don saw this and set forth to change it.
Good on him. - IonSabres
This is the job and realization of a (good) coach. |

Really who is gonna give a shat what the PP does if jack and Sam are not here. I would expect nothing less then another 2-3 years of Top 5 picks. - hehateme
So just cause Jack and Sam might not be here we shouldn't want the young kids to improve on the PP and hopefully do a good job. |

Ah, ok. Now way I'd want to pay him that much and no way he'd want to come here. Everyone is happy. - Slump Buster
Agreed. These long UFA contracts are just asking to be bought out at the end. Don’t do it! |

it also seems as if donnie g felt that mfe and girardi were integral components in changing it...
for me, what girardi did with that defense was remarkable...they looked good as a corps and that's why i really wanted to see him retained |

So the ask for Risto is a good young Dman and a high pick. |

i'm not expecting him to coach this team to the cup, but it looks like he can lay a helluva foundation as they develop this squad of young group of players at the nhl-level |

Apparently Risto's trade price is a young D and a high draft choice.
2nd rounder and Simon Lundmark from Winnipeg.
Edit: Let me reiterate for the third time that the price of Risto is a high pick and a young D. |

If that's the case then make a deal with Seattle to take Miller for a 4th or 5th

If this team wins a cup in the next decade Donnie will have played a very important role in it whether he is still the coach or not |

Wow how greedy can Landeskog be.
Colorado is offering to set Landy and his family up for life but He wants to be greedy.
Something something career ending injury. - ImThatGuy
I hope ST Louis gives him 9.5 for 7
That takes them out of the discussion for the net decade

This tells me that if he isn't traded before the trade freeze, they're going to protect him. |

I couldn't care less what they play before games (save some extreme exceptions), but anyone that thinks this is anything other than grandstanding is kidding themselves. This is the NFL's way of looking like they're doing something without doing anything at all.

there is nothing that says Seattle doesn't take miller over borgen as it sits.. just depends on what other D are available.. they need to ice a decent team and Miller is an actual NHL defensemen today |
