But that’s my point. Instead of waiting until they are already in their prime, get them signed long term when young. Benn is 31 with whatever, 5? years remaining? If he was 31 and on an expiring 8 year deal he would have provided excellent value for at least 6, probably 7 or those years. Now you would be deciding on a sweetheart deal to take him to retirement, letting him walk, or trading him at the deadline. - 1970vintage
Bridge deals were created for a purpose. Next year when Jason Robertson wants 7 mil x 7 , and the following year Rupe Hinz wants 7 mil and Gurianov wants to be paid and they are still tied under Benn Seguin
They can't even protect D1ckenson and are letting Oleksiak walk for free.
Not my problem but sounds like piss poor management. |

Every situation/player is going to be different. Being able to evaluate their potential is critical. I agree, in some cases a bridge deal is much better, in others it ends up costing you way more.
I’d go long on Petey and 2 years on Hughes. I think that would maximize their prime years, and minimize the risk of their performance declining below their contract amount too significantly. But there are risks either way you go. |

GMs are opening Pandora's box . I would hate to be the RFA coming of his ELC and hearing I am only getting a bridge deal because now GMs are signing second contracts long term. |

I think it's just the opposite of what you're saying, Jamie Benn signed an eight year extention at 27 years old, he's now 32 (tomorrow) with three years left and he's declining.
GM are seemingly wanting to pay guys in their prime years not in their third contract when they're only going to be good for half of the length of the deal. Signing guys to eight year deals when they're 27-28-29 is the problem. |

The worst thing about being a fan of this club is the constant negativity, non stop. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the arm chair experts in here or the so call experts in media, or the idiot analytical crowd.
It will be satisfying to see all the hypocrites back peddling when the team finishes strong. - Makita

Told the #Flames have a bunch of balls in the air. Roster is completely unsettled. Teams should be calling GM Brad Treliving. He's open for business. #NHL

Maybe we can get Tanev and Markstrom back half price and Det are not protecting Stecher . We could have the old gang back . |

He should be protected, massive hole to fill without him. |

We aren't competing this season, need to get rid of the bad contracts and pick up some good D-men next season when those contracts end. Let Rathbone show his worth. |

Define “finishing strong”. If you mean what I think you mean then let’s have a friendly bet. Location or avatar?
I think all this feigned optimism is just a load of poop that none of you believe is really true. Let’s see how much you all believe the poop you’re selling.

Rumblings that SJ will be getting a goalie ( Adin Hill ) by 12 noon today also Allen and Koskinen swapping teams is trending.
Don't think Holtby will be moved before the draft we need to expose a goalie. |

As I said earlier, I don't understand this fan or media notion that the Canucks have to do something, what are they expecting? Who and or what are you making deals with to improve the club without taking a step sideways? |

Zadorov would be a good pickup, he's not going to provide much beyond a third pairing guy but he's big and hard to play against. Not worth a 2nd under any circumstances, keep your draft picks! |

ARI/SJ deal will be Adin Hill and a 7th for Josef Korenar and a 2nd. Both picks in 2022 |

We’ve talked about this subject to death. We all know the Canucks can’t make serious push until JB’s mistakes have expired and the dead weight is purged.
The draft picks and fine young core that’s been assembled are still years from developing into strong consistent NHLers.
The players that support the young, skilled core must be far better (and cheaper) that what we have now.
Veterans acquired need to lead by example on the ice and not in the bars and clubs of Cabo.
Coaching and strategy must improve to allow for the assembled skilled core to play to their strengths.
These are basic, fundamental, foundational goals any franchise should focus on. There needs to be a firm timeline to competitiveness established. IMO, this has been ownership and managements biggest flaws; not understanding the team they have, where they are in their “cycle”, and how to achieve their goals within a specific amount of time. |
