He is a nice player. Fiesty. If Powers, Edvinsson and McTavish are gone before Canucks pick at 9 I would be fine trading down and taking a guy like him or Pinelli.

That Ladd trade was expensive! Save 1.15m or whatever against the cap for 3 picks.

Depending on how things go, Ladd could even make the Coyotes team next year.

Edit, apparently the condition on the 3rd is Arizona only gets it if Ladd played 1 or more games in the NHL in 2022.

I can’t imagine a world, where after losing hundreds of millions that the Arizona Coyotes eat salary to gain a 3rd round pick, especially given that they are desperately trying to divorce themselves from their captain.

Chicago just moved Keith’s $5.5m cap hit for a prospect and a conditional 3rd rounder (becomes a second).

LA just gave up a second and a third for Arvidsson full pull.

The Leddy deal so far is the only thing resembling what you’re talking about.

There will be a few, sure, but I don’t see the “majority” of deals being made as being salary retained types.

That was Codes. And the discussion was about “retained salary”. Technically, I’m still right, Arizona didn’t send out a player, retaining salary, for picks. Yes, they took on a contract for picks, but this could be an LTI deal, we still don’t know.

We aren't competing this season, need to get rid of the bad contracts and pick up some good D-men next season when those contracts end. Let Rathbone show his worth.

I think they will be much better this season and will make the playoffs - but I agree that waiting out the current contracts on the books is the best course of action.
