Dhaliwal does not think the Edler decision is due to term and money. Thinks he wants to go to a better situation. If a 15 year vet leaves your team that seems like a shocking indictment. No?”

“Dhaliwal follows up that Edler wants a Stanley Cup and doesn’t think the Canucks are close. Again, that is true to any reasonable person but when a 15 year vet leaves due to that I think that’s a gut punch on the state of the organization.

Essentially Edler knows the organization is poorly ran

I don’t believe that $ or term wasn’t some issue. His agent said the offer wasn’t “offensive”, but it could still be very far apart from what he considers fair. At the end of the day if he’s going to have to play for $1-$2m per season, he probably figured why not play somewhere more fun.

He’ll sign in Tampa for 2 x $900k and a waterfront condo.

Too bad he never requested a trade at Tdl. Just maybe the Canucks could have got an decent prospect or pick for him.
If he knew he wasn't liking the direction of the team, like many, then he should have stated that a few months back and moved on.

Burrows waived, Kesler waived(although very limited), Bieksa waived, but the Swedish meatballs don't.

The Swede’s definitely march to the beat of their own drum.

Burrows is the only guy who waived at the deadline. Everyone else was off season. It wasn’t a hey, go chase a cup and help us out. Garrison, Bieksa both pissed at the request, Kesler demanded the trade.

Benning gave Edler the trade protection in exchange for the contract being two years. The whiners want their cake and to eat it too.

It’s odd, no question, especially considering he was so adamant he didn’t want to play anywhere else.

Benning eventually gets on everyone’s nerves

Hope Eddie aims for T.B, guy deserves a shot and would fit that system and roster like a glove.

I'll wait until pre-season to make a formal judgment but dang, it's going to be hard to replace those 20 minutes with a bargain bin UFA signing.

Thus far, we are looking at a defensive loss of potentially Edler, Hamonic and Schmidt.
Say what you will about how (frank)ing atrocious the D was last season but yikes, those three were the only ones actually playing defense of any kind lol.

Been a canuck fan since 1990. Honestly cause of where I live the west Kootenays and my major dislike for Jim Benning cause idiot I'm going to become a Kraken fan. I'm 6.5 to Van 7 to Seattle. I'm gonna take the fresh start. I'm happy edler isn't coming back but man there is such a lack of everything on this team. Maybe I'm quitting but I'm ok with it lol. Go Seattle. I'll monitor here for a bit and chat forsure but how scared are you guys about the deals in fa and with trades jb is about to make
- Jkuzzi

Similar statements usually lead to the opposite occurring so putting money on a bounce back year for the Canucks...thanks for taking one for the team Looking forward to the west coast rivalry.

Draft seems to be all over the place. 2nd and 3rd rounds that should be mid 1sts.

I say trade down.

Weird how the other 8 picks didn't bite on the #2 ranked NA central scouted player before 9oa.

If Kent Johnson is there Benning’s gotta take him.

Really can't blame Edler for wanting out, he can see 1st hand how this team is structured and I doubt he likes what he sees.

The only thing that irks me with Edler is that if he wanted to chase the cup, why not waive at TDL? Probably could have gotten him to Tampa. Did he only just decide after the season?

I don’t care either way, but, the Canucks are in short supply of skilled centers in the depth charts.

If Johnson is the last of the top nine, I feel like trading down for mulpitle picks is the way to go (not a huge fan but Johnson could pan out). Would consider picking Lysell over Johnson.

Hoping for some odd reason Clarke is still there.

Drance saying surprisingly high interest in Holtby but the Canucks with either need to add a sweetener or retain.

Teams are interested because they just want a free be?

I kind of have to wonder why. Lysell hype crew has been hush lately and only some of the analytics crowd thinks he is top 10 worthy.

Not sure he's an NHL center. Probably like Reinhart moves to wing in NHL most likely.

No doubt, but my fear is that every other NHL level defenseman sees the same thing he does hahah.

If that's the case, that leaves Benning with the ability to overpay UFA guys to come here or trade what little value we have for dmen.

Was hoping for that cheap hometown discount for Eddie to fill out the backend.
