I think contending teams will all be asking to have retained salary in all acquired trades, and non contending teams will be willing to retain. I think Seattle would be willing to take on dead space if they can utilize it to obtain more high draft picks much like Vegas did. They had 3 1st round picks in their first year I believe.

I would think all but the leagues elite talent is available, which is easy to say, but to fit it into your salary structure is really difficult for 70% of the teams.

I can see Seattle being 3rd or 4th in the Pacific based on who I'm seeing available in the edraft. I honestly don't think the teams below them in the Pacific would be opposed to retaining salary if it meant obtaining good draft picks, especially if the player only had a year left. Contending teams need cap space more than anything right now.

I can’t imagine a world, where after losing hundreds of millions that the Arizona Coyotes eat salary to gain a 3rd round pick, especially given that they are desperately trying to divorce themselves from their captain.

As usual, a lot of talk but not much actual movement. You've gotta be in a position to retain or give up assets to make things happen. Canucks are not in that position. They were last year with the addition of Schmidt for a 3rd as EP40 and QH were on their entry level deals, not the case this year, they're going to take up a large portion of Benning's available cap space.

Its kind of nice to see an open championship that isn't a poop show for the players.

If the deadline comes and goes, and there was nothing done, I think it will be a pretty big failure on his part, considering what he told the media and other GMs.
