If the deadline comes and goes, and there was nothing done, I think it will be a pretty big failure on his part, considering what he told the media and other GMs.
- Codes1087

He's says stupid shit every year and the slurpers eat it up. Quite honestly, what's he going to do? He's never in a position of strength trying to make deals and the team as a whole has very few quality players, which is why they're most likely protecting a kid like Kole Lind with six games of unimpressive NHL experience.

The slurpers believe everything he says, the haters think he's always lying. I give him the benefit of the doubt until it's too late.

For EP40 and QH, I think they get shorter term deals but they're still going to eat up 14 million in cap space IMO.

They should lock up their franchise players.

Unfortunately the NHL isn't like the NBA. Blockbuster trades aren't a yearly thing like basketball. We should all be prepared for a very quiet day for the Canucks.

Think EP will get 3 years, a bit more than Boeser got. Think Hughes will go either 2 or 4 year. Might take a very short bridge, leaving 2 RFA years or take it right to the edge. 2 years, $4.5 per or 4 years $5.75 per

$14 seems high to me unless one of them goes 8 years.

It's been reported they're looking for shorter term deals to get past the flat cap years. Trying to maximize money down the road I guess.

Barzal signed for 7 million/yr on a shorter three year deal, zero chance IMO that EP40 signs for anything south of that.

Depends on how they structure the contract. For example, if Petey gets say $6.5 AAV over three years, but his annual salary is $3.5m, $6.5m, $9.5m then his QO starts at $9.5.

I’m not sure if they can actually stretch that out this much, not sure what the year to year variation is allowed to be, but you get the idea.

I'm guessing 7 million a year for Petey and 6.75 million a year for Quinn Hughes. But what the hell do I know.

I think they changed that. When they returned to the bubble they did a quick update on the CBA .

Contracts signed after July 1 2020 no longer have to use the last year of the previous contract as the QO but rather the AAV has to be the QO or higher.

?

Pretty sure that there is a rule that the salary can’t change by more than 50% of the AAV per year or something? So in this case by $3.25m per year.

Ahh, hadn’t heard that. Well, doesn’t really make any difference how they structure the deals anymore then.

Though on long deals I can still see them going heavy on bonus and light on salary to protect against buyouts.

From Capfriendly:

For players who are on expiring contracts that were signed after July 10, 2020:
The Qualifying Offer is limited to 120% of their previous contracts annual average (AAV)
