I guess they figured the price of acquiring a middle 6 W/C on a $3ish contract would be more expensive after the expansion draft than before. Just like the Canucks. I’m sure Richardinson would cost more than a 3rd under normal circumstances.

Dubas sure flies under the radar for a guy who has traded so many firsts , always in cap hell , no playoff success and bad signings.

Apples to apples, Fleurie at the expansion draft had just lost his job to Matt Murray, Price was a Conn Smyth consideration (until the final)

Just saying.

True, and the more I read the more I like Seattle to take Price. If they could start with Price in goal and land someone like Landeskog for captain, Tarasenko, and Johansen at centre. That’s a pretty good start to a respectable roster.

It’s a goodie. When I was like 11 or 12 I had the Ghosts cover as a poster in my room for years. I had so many album posters then. Those and Farrah Fawcett, Heather Thomas, and Christie Brinkley posters.

Yes it is, but that is already about 35 million in cap space.

Go crazy Kracken, take Price eat the big bonus, retain a little and flip him to Boston. Could you imagine the rioting in Montreal

Yep. Today's blog starts with a quick look at the shiny baubles available to Seattle, then shifts to where the Canucks might fit into the picture and ends with a look at new arrival Jason Richardinson.

So I guess Weber and Subban as your starting two is out of the question?

CapFriendly updated their Seattle Expansion Draft to include all the protected/unprotected players. Pretty easy to go through and build a team/see what it costs... really quickly skimming through without much research:

Drouin - Johansen - Tarasenko
Domi - Tierny - Bailey
Namestnikov - Kerfoot - Compher
Mathieu Joseph - Bjugstad - Appleton
(Ritchie, Aston-Reese, Athanasiou, Heinen all RFAs)

Butcher - Colin Miller
Ghost - Deangelo
Klefbom LTIR
(Bean and Zadorov RFAs)
(Oleksiak and Hjalmarsson UFAs)

Driedger and Vanecek goalies

This lineup still gives them 13+ mil (17+ with Klefbom on LTIR) to sign a better D and maybe even land Landeskog... and that's not even taking into account whatever side deals will have to happen.

I sure like that Joonas Donskoi kid from the Avs. I think Seattle will be just fine.

I think people here are also underestimating Seattle's flexibility. They're not just picking players and making a team, they have a TON of cap space to either take on more players, or sign UFAs. Francis seems a bit more creative than Honest Jim, so I think we'll see some interesting trades come down the wire.
- NewYorkNuck

With a clean slate & 81.5m cap to work with any GM oughta do well. Everything is in play to draft & trade etc. That’s an assumption lol

Hides behind the MLSE purse very well.
