Ellis is a really good player. That contract might bite later on, but Philly is immediately better. But all in all, Nashville came out pretty solid. They don't need to protect Glass, Myers is a more defensively oriented younger replacement for Ellis at a lower cap. Vegas gambles, naturally.

How would it be circumventing the cap?😂 He counted against the cap every year he was on the Island and now they traded him and its circumventing?
- Isles

Guy hasn't played in 2 seasons and was traded plus draft picks and got NOTHING back. 6 million dollars of cap relief, looks like circumvention, smells like circumvention, tastes like circumvention, guess what its cap circumvention.

Is it circumvention if its legal? Seems like shifty maneuvering and might be addressed in the next CBA but for now that looks like its absolutely allowed. If your playing within the rules it ain't cheating.

Again…there is nothing in the CBa against trading players on ltir. It has literally been done dozens of times over the years.

The Flyers traded two unsure players Patrick with his migraines and is not all that good and Meyers is a question mark for a sure number 1/2 dman in Ellis. Go Flyers!! Cody Glass is glass too.

I'm actually looking at Glass, Nashville could make out like bandits on this one , but for the moment Philly somehow won this

Ek, why is it so insane for NYR to acquire Goodrow for a 7th? You must realize he's a UFA in 10 days so this merely gives NYR a headstart on discussing a contract. I sure hope you didn't think he was under contract...

I'm actually surprised... I like this move from Poile. They needed to get out from under one of those three horrendous contracts, and Ellis was the only one of three that had any value on the trade market. I'm also pleastenly surprised he flipped Nolan for Glass. No offense to Nolan who may still be good someday, but the last thing the Preds needed was another chronic underachiever who can't stay on the ice. When I kept hearing the rumors of Poile sniffing around Nolan, I thought it was another classic case of Poile falling in love with a particular player despite all the red flags.

This trade might also be good for Phily depending on which Ellis shows up. If it's the Ellis that's hurt constantly or checks out mentally if the team as a whole isn't playing well, he can become frustrating really fast. His game may be better suited for the Eastern Conference right now.

Is Glass the real deal? I know Vegas has been disappointed in his development. He was projected to be in their top 6 by now and he hasn’t been able to crack their lineup. Is he going to be a top 6 forward?
Ryan Ellis has been a treat to watch for years. He is not a big player and struggled containing Carolina forwards in their playoff series. He wasn’t getting regular PP time this year. They separated him from Josi this year when for years they were the shut down pair. Carrier looked equal to Ellis (who would have thought?) in the last 20 games and the Playoffs and I think made this move palatable in the Preds eyes.
Flyers get a class leader, first rate passer and off the charts IQ defenseman. He has an underrated shot and can be used in all situations. He is getting hurt pretty regularly at this stage of his career. The next 2 years of his contract are fine but being on the wrong side of 30 those later years will bite a bit. In the short term Flyer# win this deal. But if Preds use Cap money wisely and Glass develops I can stomach it.

I thought we were told at the deadline that Nashville might trade Ekholm but it would take a king's ransom to get Ellis. Now Nolan Patrick does it. Remember when several of us said they'd much rather dump Ellis' contract?

He's a worthwhile risk all things considered. A prospect that doesn't need protecting in the expansion draft and you shed a bad contract for a still competent but undersized and injury prone D-man with a diminishing skillset. Glass is a low-risk gamble you don't have to commit too if he doesn't pan out. Let's face it, the Preds forward core is in serious need of a makeover.

Ask nine out of ten Preds fans and they would much rather keep Ekholm over Ellis. It's actually mind boggling how many Preds fans where advocating to leave Ellis unprotected during the expansion draft, which I thought was insane.... Why let him walk to Seattle for free when you can get something for him?

Allow the Flyers to protect JVR? Why would they protect JVR? I'd be thrilled if Seattle takes either JVR or better yet Voracek!! Two big forwards that are about as soft as ice cream on a July afternoon.

He just reported a couple of days ago that Tampa didn't have cap space to bring back Goodrow. Which was pretty obvious. Coleman is in the same boat. So when you see a guy like Goodrow traded for a 7th, isn't it obvious that this had to be a rights deal? But maybe it's insane because he thought the price would be a 5th instead of a 7th.

Hearing that Carey Price has waived his no-move for purpose of exposure in the expansion draft so that the Habs could protect Jake Allen in the expansion draft. The thought is that Seattle wouldn’t want to pick up the rest of Price’s hefty contract. But I guess we will see

Totally! Nashville dumped the smallest, slowest and most injury prone D-man with the most garbage contract and Philly swallowed it down like fine wine. Poile won this one even if he would’ve received a ham sandwich in return. Don’t take my word for it Philly fan….you’ll see.
