I recall Vancouver getting punished for Luongo retiring early and eating a cap loss as well.
- Dropthepucknotgloves

Canucks GM Mike Gillis was warned about the Luongo contract ramifications. He said "I'm good" and did it anyway. Gillis didn't care. He knew he wouldn't still be Canucks GM when Luongo retired.

It's nice to have competent management.

Indeed Jimmy. Lou is not playing. Is Eberle next?

I get the feeling he's gone in the draft. I don't think he will be as easy to replace as you do.

I don’t disagree he won’t be easy to replace, however, I’d take Palms in his spot on 1RW as a consolation prize.

Who knows until this craziness settles down. Maybe it will be Beau or even Wally, or Ebs will still be with the team and the spot is still his.

Maybe not easy but very possible. I’m just not a big fan of Eberle. If Isles lose Eberle and get even more space then Lou needs to get a big fish like GL. Isles signed Greene for 1 year 750,000.

Landeskog can be just the player to help the Isles get past Tampa. They need an upgrade over Eberle and Wally can do some damage with Lee and Barzal. Isles are obviously not in rebuild mode.

Replace Panik with Parise and I think that's your opening night roster. Maybe Varly gets traded, but probably not now with Ladd gone.

Being greedy and ignoring the cap issues, I would love your line up even more if Palmieri could slide in for Panik.

I think you would have to switch Lee with Landeskog and if you are sliding Suter into your defense, then you are going to have to figure out a way to slip Parise in to Panik's spot.

Yes to the first but not necessarily yes to the second. If Seattle takes Eberle and Lou buys out Komarov, then the Islanders would have something like 20 million in cap space.

Beauvillier - 4 years @ 4
Pelech - 4 years @ 4.5
Cizikas - 4 years @ 2
Suter - 1 year @ 2 (attempt at a Cup deal)
Landeskog - 7 years @ 7.5

Again, it’s almost hopelessly optimistic. But fun to imagine.

Not a (frank)ing chance.

Also, Suter and Parise aren’t connected at the hip. If Suter wants to take a serious run at a Cup, then he’ll have to do it on a team’s terms, not his.

It was for the best. If it had stayed any longer, I’d probably have had to make a run to the doctor.

Yeah, sorry pig, I know. At this point I want to be very happy that we were able to rid ourselves of the Ladd contract and shed Leddys. It leaves a hole but I have faith in Lou. Hopefully he can swing Landescog, or Palms, parise, and suter.

I don’t know how but I thought Ladd was untradeable, so in Lou I trust. 😁

Two questions. Now that Landeskog is exposed how does that work as far as if we wanted to sign him? Would we have to trade with Colorado before the expansion draft for his rights? Also, do we have any 2nd round picks left for this year or next? I can’t keep up with what we had and traded

If I'm not mistaken we had 3 (ours, Colorado's and Detroit's) this year and 2 (ours and Colorado's) next year before the deal.

In essence, Toews was a throw in to get Ladd off the books.

Yeah pretty much. This team is going to have some new faces. Whatever salary we lose from expansion will all but solidify that notion. I know it’s a long shot but if we could add Landeskog and keep our UFA’s/RFA’s wow. Between seemingly keeping varlamov and signing sorokin we would be an absolute force.
