forget the cup run for a minute.
many here, starting with me, have been saying exactly this. trade Price and Weber, the window will open in 2-3 years when kids reach their prime. and that will be with Primeau in net, not Carey.
are we seeing exactly this? maybe we are...
if so, the lost of Danault is pretty much irrelevent. - fidopro
Feasable
Keeping Price means you have a 37-39 year old goalie making 10.5 Million when you're team is entering it's next "window" in 3 years
Perhaps the Habs feel they got the best years out of Price, paid him a low amount of his current contract and see this an an escape hatch for the latter years that everyone assumed would be trouble without having to retain salary, take back a bad contract or eat a buyout |

problem to that theory is that Primeau is not 2 or 3 years away. KK is a mess (ok je suis pas gentil mais ça ne va pas bien). Danault might be gone as well pis les centres numéros un poussent pas dans les arbres. Even if you say you have Suzuki, Evans does not replace him either.
As for the Weber transition : look at the Markov transition. It was a mess. - deadpoulet
not saying it will be easy, probably tank a year or 2. that too was discussed here. next 2 drafts (after this one) will be spectacular. perfect timing to draft high. |

how do you know it is not Price who asked to leave? maybe he wants to go to SEA, and MB really has no option but to oblige his star player. - fidopro
Still not a guarantee that SEA takes him
So, it's again just unnecessary drama

what drama??? it was reported that Price lifted his NMC.
the question is, did MB asked him to, or is it Carey who requested to move? |

Plus Bergy just got a lot of runway with this SCF appearance
Only problem is, fan pressure will be immense if they lose Price after coming so close and suck for the next 2 years collecting high picks. Those players would be a few years away from prime too. Not sure Bergy makes it 4-5 years without results

Of note on the Carey Price situation: He's owed an $11M signing bonus in September -- a big upfront payout if seakraken claim him. Price also only waived his NMC for expansion purposes. So he can't be claimed and flipped in a subsequent trade without his consent. |

I think it's clear Francis wanted to take Allen and Bergy wasn't willing to meet Francis' price to take a different player (rumoured 1st and a 3rd)
This is Bergy being clever and trying to one up Francis by keeping his guy (Allen) and not paying the ransom

If Francis had a huge pair he'd take Price and then publicly offer him in trade back to Montreal straight up for Allen
would really put Price and Bergy on the spot with the fanbase

yeah, don't take my Lada, here! take my Mercedes.
doesn't make sense to me tbh.
imo the most plausible is that Carey asked for it. |

Well, leaving your star goaltender who just got you within grasp of the Stanley Cup up for nothing doesn't make sense to me either, but here we are
Price waiving doesn't guarantee that he'd be picked even if he wants out. The better way to do it would if this was all prearranged would be just trade him for a 7th after the expansion draft if you don't care about the return
Instead we're gonna have 4 days of the sky falling and fan/media scrutiny about what Bergy is possibly thinking and speculation Price wants out of Montreal
Who wins in that scenario?

but as AG27's post mentions Price would still have his no-movement clause after waiving it to go to SEA |

no it doesn't, but what if Price told MB, listen, I want out, don't protect me.
agreed, SEA could pass and take someone else.
but in that scenario, we could not blame MB. |

Yes, if he didn't waive it to RETURN to Montreal, what would the fanbase reaction to him be about that? Surely he cares about his Habs legacy
Hence, both Bergy and Price would be on the spot

Ok, so Bergy does it and then Seattle doesn't take him
Now what?
What did we accomplish, aside from creating headlines and drama? |

I can see the logic for Bergy. Kraken would not be able to trade Carey without his consent. They would not be able to buy out his contract for 2 years. They were already rumored to be "far" in discussions with Driedger for a contract, so maybe Bergy knows its a done deal (would be funny if Driedger had the same agent as Aho, and that agent told him the scoop to thank him for the contract... that is just fanyasy). So, is the Kraken really interested in investing 10,5 for Carey and let's say 5.5 for Driedger, not sure. I feel it could really be a Bergy decision, it's a risk, but maybe more calculated than you seem to imply. |

of course he cares about the habs, but if the guy wants a new start somewhere else, would he stay just because of his "legacy"? |

Your premise is that Price asked to be moved, so he just shrugs and plays the next 6 in Montreal?
Both things can't be true
If Price wanted out, and this is the only way Bergy could do it - You got a big problem if Seattle doesn't take him, because that drama and questioning won't end for a while and will be a massive distraction
If Bergy is being clever and thinks Seattle won't take him, and they do, he's gonna have massive egg on his face
