oh I get it, but for me going into a season saying "we're here to lose games and win the draft lottery" just isn't an option, especially after having reached the cup final. I want the team to progress and evolve with a winning mentality, even if that means not getting a higher pick.

normally I would agree. build on that run and try again next year. replace Tatar and Drouin and you have a chance.
but with Weber possibly out for good, and Price maybe wanting out? have to change your plan here imo.

IF Weber is out for good, and IF SEA take Price.

Price isn't going anywhere imho, and the Weber situation could be basically resolved if MB lands a legit top pairing D, in the eventuality that Shea retires... not an easy task for sure, but not an impossible one either. we'll see... Marc's phone must be red hot right now (at least I hope it is lol)

Seattle would be idiots not to take him if available. Ya poor contract, but they will need some stars to draw fans in. Plus they will be nowhere near the cap so it won’t be a huge deal to them. It’s just heartbreaking that the last playoff run is probably the closest the habs are gonna get for a while. Losing both danault, weber and potentially price turns this team into a bottom feeder instantly.

I don’t know, it makes no sense to protect Allen over price. I think there was some sort of a talk and price wants a change. The ballsiest gambler in the world wouldn’t leave a franchise player unprotected because you think his contract is too much for them to take. You’ll look like a complete fool if they take him.

If those 2 go plus denault, you basically enter rebuild mode and only ones untouchable are Suzuki caufield and Romanov. They wouldn’t have a core left to compete with Tampa or Toronto in the present so their would be no point in trying.

well, if Price actually wants out of MTL, and Bergevin is simply respecting his wishes, then not really, no. but I'm under the impression this was all thought out and not a gamble at all, following discussions with SEA.

Well if that’s the case, they better do a press conference explaining the whole situation. Cause if it just comes off looking like bergevin gambling that he could keep both and they take price when he leaves him exposed, that’s a fireable offence in my opinion.

They trade Price back to MTL, retain some salary, MTL sends them some picks or prospects for the favour

Cap relief.

not sure what it'll cost exactly but there is a chance MB gives SEA a pick or 2 (and apparently a prospect, JFC) so they leave us the (frank) alone. either that or the habs already know who Francis is grabbing, hence why they left Price unprotected.

Why is Jake Allen all of a sudden considered a can’t lose player? He’s a glorified back up goalie

he's the best backup this team has had in a looooooooong time, and they'll need him to make the playoffs. he isn't irreplaceable but there aren't tons of equivalent options

That'd certainly be creative, though whether I like that or not depends entirely on what picks and prospects are going to the Kraken.

let's hope the habs will come out of it in a better position than they were, or at least as good.

They dont need stars to sell tickets. They’ve already done their season ticket drives and have fans regardless. They market their new team and new young picks.

Jesus dude take a pill. If Price wanted to he could have just said no.

Step off that ledge.

of course they can be in a good spot financially without star players, but it's hard to argue that having a bit of star power on your team doesn't usually bring stronger ticket sales.

I'm not certain, however I don't think they can trade him back to his original team that he just waived his NTC/NMC clause from. What was the point ?

Maybe they know Drouin can go and will be the pick.

We'll know on the 21st I guess.
