Leddy was an offensive defensemen when his offense dried up he was useless. If we lose bailey to Seattle then we could trade ebs and have the cap space to sign all our RFAS and cizikas and palms. |

Leddy was a weak link in the playoffs but he leaves a hole in our line up. Getting a second back was awesome and using it along with another to jettison Ladd was huge. We didn’t use a first but two seconds is still giving up assets to move a contract which is never ideal. Believe me I’m in no way being critical of the deal it was a great “trade” but to quote “cap issues” like we have/had none isn’t accurate. We NEED another D man and most likely another forward who are going to fill that empty space now without even factoring in our RFA/UFA signings. With that said I do agree that good GM’s have to find a way to navigate their way out of bad contracts. - Cptmjl
I liked both deals and especially moving Ladd but it did cost us draft picks so it was not easy. The real test is if Lou can add that impact forward with the added space. |

My point is that we can always create cap room. ( Look at Tampa they won the cup with a line up that was $18 mill over the cap). People who constantly bring up the isles cap issues are insane about it... like it's their money. If we were able to get someone you really want on this team and it was going to cost a lot there are a ton of moves you can make to create the room to fit him..... we just jettisoned our worst contract issue BY FAR for essentially Leddy (who would have been taken in expansion draft for nothing) and a second.
Every team has to deal with the cap. We are FAAAAAAAR better than most teams who have multiple guys under contract making well over $9 mill a year.

Leddy and Bailey were the 2 guys I loved and hated. They drove me nuts a few times a game and made some great plays a few times a game. Ironic that those 2 were very responsible for the only goals scored on us in game 7 ... on the power play.
Leddy takes the body immediately then Palmieri has the puck.. if Bailey didn't feel the need to be a 3rd player going to the corner they don't have a guy wide open in front to score a shorty.

I don't want anyone over the age of 34 ... Those contracts usually are a disaster.

Not islanders, related but price will need knee surgery and is out for next season. Iou is a genius to be able to trade ladd. We did give up Alot but its worth it |

If that is truly the case.. and I don't believe it.. Do they have to expose another goalie? Not sure if he fits the parameters if he is hurt.

Some of these people on Social media losing their sht over a UFA like Landeskog being unprotected are literally complete idiots. Why would Seattle draft a UFA who can sign anywhere he wants 5 minutes after you drafted him. |

I believe that Seattle can use this time before the expansion draft to try to reach an agreement with him. |

I don't want to sign a guy who ends up not playing b/c he is older, more likely to get hurt easily and slower.. ex.. Andrew Ladd, and most guys who end up on LTIR.

Just bustin'....
I think Ovi is generally healthy and in good shape. But I agree it's better not to sign guys his age to long-term deals. I also doubt he signs anywhere but in Washington. |

That doesn't make sense.. If you are a UFA that means you can sign with anyone for any amount of $$. no where in the expansion draft rules does it say there is a window for them only to speak to UFA's. Teams have been talking to UFA agents for 2 weeks already.. don't think they stop at this point.
that said.. if they agree to something they would wait to file it until after expansion draft so they don't have to protect someone else.

So was Ladd when we signed him.. scored 24 goals his first year and then fell apart.

My wish list.. in order..
1. sign Pelech long term deal
2. sign Beau long term deal
3. sign Casey...
4. Trade for Seth Jones
5. sign a UFA forward to replace Bailey or Ebs ... Landeskog or Hall would be my choices. |

I didn't say that only Seattle could talk to UFAs. I said that Seattle could be trying to reach agreements with UFAs now BEFORE the expansion draft. |
