Not claiming that's the case, but Landy is going to get a big number from someone. Isles have a little bit over $12M in cap space, plus JB's $6M LTIR cushion.
Staple is predicting about $4M-ish for Beau, $5M-ish for Pelech (more if the term goes higher), and $3M-ish for Sorokin/Cizikas.
That's around $16M (assuming Pelech gets more than $5M, personally) out of about $18M that's available. Losing Eberle or Bailey would bring total available space to around $7M or so. Maybe buying out Komarov or Hickey would get them to the $8M it might take to be in the running for Landeskog. Makes things tight going forward but it seems like they are definitely comfortable, and doing well, staying tight to the cap ceiling - eichiefs9

No nothing negative but I’m thinking the Caps will want to sign him but I’m not so sure they are going to give him a long term deal imo. Their core is older now and there is a rebuild that needs to take place soon. - nyisles7
It would just be weird to see Ovi in another jersey, wouldn’t it? |

I’ve only heard the Caps are working on a deal to keep him and he wasn’t going anywhere. That was from NHL radio the other day, but God only know if that’s true. - Isleshockeyman
Here's a question: Who gets the bigger number? Ovi or Landy? |

Wonder if we see Palms re-signed and Parise joining Palms with JGP on the 3rd line and Wally for the 1st? Might come down to this with the Cap situation. If this is the case hopefully it's enough to get the Isles over the top. I'm just no sure though? |

Definitely. I think he re-signs with the Caps. But a man can dream... |

I’m going to say Landy because if Colorado doesn’t circle back and sign him, he’s going after the big money. Ovi, I think, would give a discount to the Caps to resign. |

They can certainly try and sign him, but I'm not so sure he's going to want to go from one of the best teams in the NHL to an expansion team. Of course it depends what they're offering...if they throw out some ridiculous $10M x 8yr deal maybe that's enough to sway him.
But that list of teams he'd allegedly be interested in signing with certainly didn't include the Kraken. It's all conjecture obviously, but I think he'd have to get one hell of a massive offer from Seattle to end up there.
I still think he stays in COL at the end of the day though. |

Just the age alone have to think Landy. Hard to see Ovi leaving the Caps. |

Probably.
Which is fine. Seems to me that the Islanders will still be a legit Cup threat if they sign their RFAs, and add competent players like Palmieri, Saad/McGinn/Tatar and Oleksiak. |

Almost have to think that they'd have to shed Eberle and Bailey to do that. Leddy's going to have to get replaced with an UFA, on top of re-signing Pelech/Sorokin/Beau/Cizikas - eichiefs9
Yep. What do you think Landeskog will get? |

Hard to not want a big name forward after the Tampa loss and two shutouts. - ses111
Honest question Ses. If Lee had been Barzal’s LW in the Tampa series, do you think the outcome would’ve been different? |

Very interesting question schwein and I though about it a lot. It certainly would have helped but Isles did lose with Lee two years ago. I'm thinking Isles still lose and I guess No Palms if Lee does not get hurt. Isles have enough to give Tampa fits but winning is another story and so far Isles are 0-2. Outside of adding another impact forward, can Barry adjust the system a little to get more offense against Tampa? Tampa is Lou and Barry's white whale right now. All of Lou's moves the last few days tells me he thinks Isles need more. |

The good news for the Islanders and the rest of the League is that Tampa is going to lose a pretty good player to Seattle.......likely Gourde or Palat, I'm guessing. And I'm not sure that that takes care of their cap problems. So they likely won't be as good next season. |

With the moves Lou is making, my guess is he already has something close to being done. I could be very wrong but why make the movs he did without something being in place or close to it. I don’t think anyone is going to make trades just to be ~14m under the cap. |

Yes it would be 100%. Although did you ever think Chara would wear any other jersey than the B’s?
Fact Gretzky ( now Ladd ) was traded always makes me think that anything’s possible. |

100% agree.
Knowing Lou and Pelligrini they have numbers in place to make the cap work with the FA’s , RFA’s they want to sign and also ones they are looking to bring into the team.
They are waiting for the Expansion Draft and who’s taken ( unless they have a side deal ) and then the contracts will start getting finalized and announced. |

Things are going ok. Still working the house. New carpet, paint, concrete patio, etc. Job is great. Thanks for asking.
With the Gretzky context, yes, anything is possible.
