Price has an 11 mil bonus in September. Pay that out, put him on LTIR and I think a buy out would be cheaper before next year. Can retire and get paid.

Would be silly for Danault unless he ends up on a contender that will give him top 6 minutes (extremely unlikely scenario). I remember when Kovalev left Montreal to sign in Ottawa for 500k more than what Gainey offered him. He came to instantly regret his decision, partly because Kovy was treated as a demi-god here despite his inconsistent effort at times. Danault should be very careful thinking the grass might be greener somewhere else just because some GM might be more inclined to give him a little bit more money.

damn, I don't recall it being such a small difference between both offers... in that case everyone was kinda dumb in the process, Kovalev for leaving to make an extra amount of money that is ridiculously small compared to his total career earnings (and to go to Ottawa, of all places lol), and Gainey for being a cheap bastard towards an obviously very talented player while his team barely had anything else interesting going on.

He’d be the perfect replacement though. Finally another puck moving defenseman. I’m not sure who could fill that hole beside Seth Jones. Else there might be a trade or something like that but unless a surprise it won’t be a effective.
