Yes so grabbing a top 5 goalie over a bottom pair d man would help them win games. To not be a complete door mat for the rest of the league should be his goal. I dunno, I hope you guys are right, but if I’m Francis and I have the opportunity to pick a franchise goalie for free to be competitive from game one, I’m pretty sure I’m doing it.

I think there are other decent and cheaper options available in net, so that Francis won't have to "handcuff" himself cap-wise with Price's contract. we'll see.

Well then that’s a different scenario. If price asked and he wants to go play in Seattle, then I respect that. But if bergevin is doing this thinking Seattle won’t take him so he gets to keep him and Allen. That’s a massive gamble
- cburgess

yup, that's why I feel Bergevin and Francis already had a little talk, and that this isn't a gamble at all.

there are a few decent goalies available at a much better cap hit...maybe not the same star power for marketing but more $ palatable.

You’re right, but I think every team needs a star or 2 to market around. The fans won’t care if they are 15 million or 9 million under the cap. That won’t be an issue untill prices deal is up anyways

Has anyone done a mock draft of what Seattle’s team would be and how close they would be to the cap? It would be interesting to know

It's a win win situation for the player and team imo. Either we keep both goalies and can try to sign Hamilton or trade for Jones to replace Weber and then figure out how to replace Danault, or we've shed all of our big bloated contracts in one summer (or rather have Weber on LTIR) and we're in a very good position to build around our young core with cap space being so hard to come by right now. Price gets to go near home and his wife's family.

pretty much just wear a mask if you haven't been vaccinated. some people are even following that rule!

oh that reminds me (cause she had a mask on), one more cool thing that happened yesterday. i saw this little old lady come in the bar, i mean little, like 5'0", and she ordered a beer with her food and i saw her take a big gulp and give it 3 fist pumps afterward. it kind of made my day.

Tried it but it’s way too hard. I don’t believe Price will be taken, I was at 100m cap lol. There will be cheap RFA guys being taken.

Team could look good though

I hope Price stays and they stick with the hope to make the playoffs/miracle run plan. It's a good one. They need to avoid the next two drafts at all cost. Those 50 goal guys cost a lot of money and they are streaky. Sometimes they go five or six games without a goal and nobody wants that. You wait for the next Yakupov/Galchenyuk draft and then you pounce.

It’s a hefty contract to be sure, but I’m told the Seattle Kraken are taking a deep dive internally on whether or not to take Carey Price in the expansion draft. My guess is they don’t in the end, but I do think there’s a better chance of it than I first thought. Intriguing

The rationalizing in here is hilarious

"No way Francis will want a goalie that's 33 and making 10.5 million for 5 more years"

that means that

"Bergy is smart and we get to keep our goalie that's 33 and making 10.5 million for 5 more years"

- TheGame316

who else from SJ is worth anything? that's the problem

I'd pick Price over Jones, but that's the thing. SEA can pick decent players from MTL, not so much from SJ.

I've been trying to create a team out of this mess and quite frankly. I don't think RF can afford Price at all.

Here's my first take

F

Voracek (PHI)- Johansen (NSH) - Tarasenko (STL)
Drouin (MTL) - Gourde (TB) - Niederreiter (CAR)
Domi (CLB) - Toninato (WIN) - Virtanen (VAN)
Fischer (ARI) - Namestnikov (DET) - Donskoi (COL)

Extras - Lemieux (LAK), Nieto (SJ), Bastian (NJD).

D

Giordano (CAL) - De Haan (CHI)
Dermott (TOR) - Deangelo (NYR)
Fleury (ANA) - Miller (BUF)

Extras - Brown (OTT), Lauzon (BOS), Hanley (DAL), Greene (NYI), Klefbom (EDM)

G

Driedger (FLA)
Kahkonen (MIN)

Extras - Vanecek (WSH) and DeSmith (PIT)

I've worked with the parameters given in CapFriendly so just correct me if certain names aren't supposed to be in there. I'm at 91.575Mil in cap space for all players but if you remove Klefbom who's injured for the year and the extras that won't stay with the club. I'm near 81.5Mil. I have no idea as well like for Skinner in BUF if BUF could consider retaining salary for him to be selected by the Kraken.

I haven't done the lines correctly but at least you get the full picture.

I can't see how Price's contract would work with the players available.

They don't have to take anyone from SJ. Just take a pending UFA and don't call him
