Just made a team with price and still $10,000,000 under the cap.

So improvements can be made

I don't know. I didn't think vegas could do what they did based on their draft.

... but they did have a pretty good goalie

- mr.peanut

and dale tallon giving them 2/3 of 1st line.

Smith, Marchesault, Theodore, Perron, Neal, Bellemare were all players that had past success so they were quite better built compared to what RF has to deal with this time. It's part of the reason why RF is mad this time since teams had a lot more time to prepare for the draft.

For Fleury, he only played 46 game that year and the backups were able to step up during his absence. I don't think you could have the same mentality and chance if your starting goalie makes 10.5mil, which doesn't give you a lot of options for strong backups like Driedger.

Logic for Seattle" Don't put all your eggs in 1 basket at Goalie" is the key to success

Logic for Montreal "Put all your eggs in 1 basket at Goalie" is the key to success

The rationalizing is hilarious

ugh, Price's contract with the habs is already signed, you can't reverse it so you have to live with the cap hit. replacing him right now would be very difficult (not to mention the Weber and Danault situations), while SEA is an expansion team who gets to pick and choose players all across the league. not sure what's so frickin' hard to understand.

Do not forget Seattle are going to flip some players and have some trades coming up. Maybe some UFAs.

I don’t believe they’ll draft a tons of vets with 1 or 2 years left.

Price could make this team better if the D drafted looks not so bad.

Whatever happens Wednesday, I'm 97% sure Price has played his last game as a Habs. The best-case scenario is it's part of a deal and we get something in return or Bergevin has another deal in waiting to spend that cap hit with a star player. I understand Seattle might already have their eyes on other goaltenders but they would be crazy not to take Price. Even with his bad contract, he is worth every penny when it counts in the playoffs and he's a marketable star. They could always take an extra goaltender as a bargain piece for some picks.

it really all depends on how Francis wants to build his team... I get what you're saying but starting off with a more "balanced" approach and having more $ to spend on the team upfront isn't a dumb idea either. anyways, I hope you're wrong, we'll see.

is it Wednesday yet?

You can't simultaneously argue that Price is right for Montreal with the current makeup of their team and wrong for Seattle when they have an opportunity to take Price and ice a lineup equal to or better than what Montreal has

Kind of hard to know which way Seattle is going to go around. Build a competitive team ready for the playoff or trade some of theses assets to look forward with young prospects/picks. They won’t keep 30 players so the salary cap is pretty thick even if they have 81.5m to use. Price would look good in a Seattle jersey since he’s like our McDavid but in a goaltending form, but that contract and terms might be what push them backward.

that's all very debatable and far from a guarantee. anyways, you have your opinion on the matter, I have mine, let bygones be bygones I guess. but you don't have to be a douche about it either with your little "oh the logic is hilarious" comments.

Price

is a better top 8 at Defense than Montreal will have next year with Weber out

Zucker
Domi
Bailey
Gourde
Tierny
Scissons
Donskoi
McCann
Namesnikov
Fischer

The #2 overall pick and about 10 million in capspace

They'll have a good team with or without Price, but it's be better with Price than any other goalie that's available

The worst thing Seattle can do is be competitive for a playoff spot and be buyers rather then sellers at the deadline

Personally I'd focus on a lot of really good pending UFA's (Nino/Domi/Gio) or guys with 2 years left on their deals and flip them all at the deadline with or without retention regardless of my position in the standings. I'd look to stockpile picks and have loads of capspace in each offseason to reshape my roster and look to be competitive in year 3 - with all the picks and drafted players ready to come up on their ELC's surrounded by the vets that I signed and traded for with all my capspace

Say Weber, Price, Danault, Tatar, Drouin, Perry, Staal, Armia, Gus and Merrill are gone and here is our lineup next season with additions

Toffoli Suzuki Caufield
Hyman Stastny Gallagher
Poehling KK Anderson
Lekhonen Evans Byron

Chiarot Hamilton
Edmundson Petry
Romanov Fleury

Rask
Allen

Pretty competitive lineup if you ask me. Also gives enough time for Primeau to get a couple more years in Laval. Our defense and forward group are better and also good in net

yeah, making the playoffs in the first year of their existence would be absolutely devastating for the franchise.
