Well I would imagine they have an agreement with an (a few) AHL team(s) for this season to send guys down. But they can also select pending UFA’s, or RFA’s and just simply let them walk if they want. They could choose Sutter from the Canucks and walk away.

Missing in the picking is all the little variables. Obviously not going to keep 30 players. Some will hit minors. Could use a few guys who don't need waivers if possible to find. They will get some in trades.

Yes, other than the few players who have been given permission, they are the only team allowed to speak to pending UFA (and RFA I think).

No doubt they will want to have a half dozen or more guys they can send down and recall for injury etc.

That's got Benning written all over it. Those last few years would be ugly, but think of the conversation in here. It would be golden!
