I guess the question is are we still on the hook for his cap or is this a mutual termination? - apex123
Maybe SEA will pick Kulak or Fleury

Oh I think it's possible too. Seems like he stopped liking hockey once his natural talent didn't mean he was the best player wherever he went.
And certainly any player they use the 5M will be More value than what Drouin provided. - mr.peanut
but whether or not he's done with hockey, it's pretty clear that he's done as a Hab

If I was Francis I honestly never would have ever been considering Drouin anyway. I would haven been happy had they taken a flyer on him. It's either pick Price and hope he gives you a couple playoff runs for some fan base excitement (I don't think this is good for them), try and sign Danault, or take the two you mentioned. |

Drouin was never an option for Seattle because no one is taking on that cap hit. Montreal would have to eat salary or take on an equally bad contract to move him.
i'm curious how this plays out because i don't see any way that it ends well unless both parties agree to dissolve the contract. and i'm not even clear if that's a possibility.

If Ron Francis Is smart he will pick the best value on the Montreal unprotected list which I think would be Cale Fleury. |

i was once involved in an expansion draft. back in grade 5 we had 3 classes of like 30+ kids and i'm pretty sure the teachers were like days away from nervous breakdowns and threatening to quit so they decided to add a 4th class. and the day of the draft they came into each class and announced the selections and i was one. i was really happy because my teacher was a complete wiener who definitely (frank)ing hated the Jewish kids in school and the new teacher was this cute 20-something year old. |

Same situation the Ottawa player getting picked by Seattle will experience. |

Yeah I'm curious as to what happens. Can he "retire" or is he obligated to report if cleared by medical and failure to report leads to contract termination. |

i have no clue. but if i'm the Habs, i'm not interested in paying him out of pocket to stay home, and i'm not interested in paying a premium to get his contract off the books. so unless this is a scenario where insurance picks up the tab, it doesn't have a clean solution.

Yeah, I don't think anyone cares if he's paid, but if he counts against the cap that's a problem. |
