they could very well pick Price and sign Danault on UFA day
- fidopro

True, but just thinking in case they don't want to take on Price's deal and not liking any of the other options on the Habs' list. Evans and Danault as a UFA would be pretty solid though.

Finally someone who makes sense-- Bergevin wants him gone
- bigmacdaddy

MB may want him gone (which I doubt), Price has the final word. he himself can decide if he lifts his NMC or not.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him regain his former shape once in SEA. for the regular season I mean.
the past few years in Mtl he looked disinterested during the regular season. but suddendly playoffs Price reappeares in April?!? the problem was above the shoulders imo.
in SEA, new start, new challenge, new team... he'll be good. wouldn't surprise me one bit.

- fidopro

He very well could and I wish him the best, but after another surgery, a long grueling playoff run, and an 82 game season we'll see how well his body holds up.

I can't believe you guys are missing the biggest gamble in Habs history! It's right there in front of all of you yet no one is talking about it! Who cares about Carey Price! What about UFA John Merrill? Is Bergy re-signing him or not????

Could it be that MB and Francis along with Price already discussed this scenario and part of it would include a side deal where SEA select and trade us a goalie we have in mind to play with Allen?

If not, who do you all see us going out to somewhat replace Price with??

- valoiz

So they gonna use two selections to get Price with a 10.5M cap hit and a NMC?

In this scenario what is enticing Seattle to send a goalie to the Habs?

they left Price open so SEA could pick him, send us back a goalie for a 2nd rounder and call it day

Yeah that's definitely fair, Montreal is a pressure cooker, especially when you're not playing up to your contract which he wasn't until the playoffs.

well Karine, sorry but seems like I was right all along on that one.
no GM would gamble losing his star player to keep his back up. that simply doesn't make any sense.
it had to come from Carey who wants out, and his GM had no choice but to let him unprotected. there's no other explanations.
I for one will certainly not blame MB if Carey ends up with SEA.

We’ll see I guess, but I didn’t want to jump at that kind of conclusion without knowing... So you don’t buy that Price just wants to make sure Allen isn’t selected?

People, I mean riskiest in Bergevin’s exec career so far...please use common sense

I think there is a chance that they pick him because of the home connection and the fact that he’s already a big thing over there not only because of his NHL career but his junior one. I wouldn’t bet anything on them picking him but we cannot say that’s impossible.

It'll be sad to lose one of the greatest goalies we've ever had, but I feel we've had every single one of his best seasons in Montreal. With Weber going, is it such a bad thing if he's picked at the twilight of his career?

I wrote that yesteday. MB leaving Price unprotected to keep Allen is like me saying to a car thief, hey! don't take my Lada, here, have my Mercedes instead. doesn't make sense.
to me, the only explanation is that Carey wants out. plain and simple. and we cannot hold any bad feelings againts him for wanting that. tks for everything and good luck.

if this goes down as I think though, the only thing I don't like is the silence from Habs. why not come out and say it clearly? why not have a press conference with Price and MB where Carey would tell his story, that he wanted out, wanted to go back 'home', thanking the fans for everything... we'll see, maybe they will do it after the draft.

Let's say we protect Price, how do we make certain we take advantage of his remaining years and surround him with bonafide replacements to Weber, Allen, possibly Danault, and two upgrades at LW?
