I wrote that yesteday. MB leaving Price unprotected to keep Allen is like me saying to a car thief, hey! don't take my Lada, here, have my Mercedes instead. doesn't make sense.
to me, the only explanation is that Carey wants out. plain and simple. and we cannot hold any bad feelings againts him for wanting that. tks for everything and good luck.
if this goes down as I think though, the only thing I don't like is the silence from Habs. why not come out and say it clearly? why not have a press conference with Price and MB where Carey would tell his story, that he wanted out, wanted to go back 'home', thanking the fans for everything... we'll see, maybe they will do it after the draft. - fidopro
That'd be pretty awkward if he didn't get taken...

We’ll see I guess, but I didn’t want to jump at that kind of conclusion without knowing... So you don’t buy that Price just wants to make sure Allen isn’t selected?
People, I mean riskiest in Bergevin’s exec career so far...please use common sense
I think there is a chance that they pick him because of the home connection and the fact that he’s already a big thing over there not only because of his NHL career but his junior one. I wouldn’t bet anything on them picking him but we cannot say that’s impossible. - Karine Hains
10.5 for 5 years, plus injuries is a whole lot to claim because of his junior career. Plus, he has the personality of a wet rag.
Let's say we protect Price, how do we make certain we take advantage of his remaining years and surround him with bonafide replacements to Weber, Allen, possibly Danault, and two upgrades at LW? - apex123
very hard to come up with a clear answer, as we have yet to know officially about Carey's injury, Weber's injury, Danault's negotiations, and Drouin's situation... too many question marks for people outside looking in, hopefully MB has more knowledge than we do lol

with Price out, I wouldn't be surprised to learn Habs have reached an agreement with Danault. probably Thursday.

They get a goalie from Habs either way.
And they'd have to use one of their other picks to send a G to Montreal.
Seems great for Montreal. Makes no sense for Seattle.

makes sense if they want Price. remember, this was all set up in advance. when Price lifted his NMC, he already knew SEA would pick him.
plus SEA will pick 30 players, they won't all play for them next year. they may very easily use one to return a goalie to Mtl for leaving Price open.
So they gonna use two selections to get Price with a 10.5M cap hit and a NMC?
In this scenario what is enticing Seattle to send a goalie to the Habs? - Nasty_Duck
From all the speculation in this group and others..this was all pre-arranged between the GMs and Price..so maybe MB spoke with Price and said "look, with Weber out for maybe the season, losing Tatar and Drouin on offense..we will be doing another reboot. Are you up for another 2-3 years of not being highly competitive? If not what do you think about us sending you back west?" Price sees the window, speaks to his agent, does the math and figures..why not. Both teams will be around the same compete level(maybe).
Then MB hits up Francis and says how would you like Price to be the face of your franchise? Eyes perk up, owners are consulted and then he plays it like, hey I'm doing you a favor can you do one for me and grab goalie X and we will throw in Kulak and a 2nd.
Again every single thing in here is pipe dreams on everyones part. They could literally decide the money is not worth it when they could have Driedger, Kahkonen and Vanecek for less than half what Price would cost and bring in a veteran via FA and still come out in front.
Still no one has come up with who we would go after if we lost Price..are we just rolling Allen/Primeau this year and crossing fingers and toes?!

they can get the same performance for a lot less. not to mention i bet there are few people who even remember him playing in the area 17 years ago. - Gramps28
they'll make a big show out of it on Wednesday, like with Fleury in Vegas.
Price will come out of behind the curtains like Johnny used to do.

nothing to do with 17 years ago, I think it's safe to say Price is considered as a star in the league, despite all the frickin' debates, or how you feel about him.
and the "same performance for a lot less" is quite debatable. not saying there are no other options out there, but not that many that are very interesting.

For how much MB clearly loves Price ie the contract he gave him, I think this move is calculated or maybe Price just wants to move on which is fine too.

pretty sure they can find a .901 SV% cheaper.
If it was a year or two on his contract, i could see taking him. 5 years? With a flat cap for at least 3 more seasons? Its a terrible move that will handcuff a team.

we always said the same thing. about Gallagher, Weber, Price...
MB will die before trading them. That Price would leave if and only if he decides to. (ask for a trade).
so if today Price lifts his NMC, don't tell me it's MB who asked him to and that it is a gamble to keep Allen.
it is because Carey wants to go home. and good for him.
