Results from the poll I took on who you all think the Kraken would take from the Hawks:
Zadorov (31)
Gaudette (12)
Subban (7)
de Haan (5)
Connolly (3)
Carpenter (1)
Delia (1)
Lindholm (1)
Quenneville (1) - pretty sure this vote came in after the rumors that he was Seattle's pick

It says that the Kraken are very intelligent about their selections and are going to weaponize cap space. They had no intentions of building their roster strictly from this draft:
https://twitter.com/CapFr...tatus/1417892960667160580
Based on the reports, this is what we expect the #SeaKraken initial roster to look like
The team will have significant cap space out of the gate to take advantage of.
Missing: CHI, DET, NYR
Of the selections, 6 players are currently pending RFAs and 4 are UFAs - Chunk
Not necessarily, there are a few teams with space, like us, and we wouldn’t need to fleece them to get a good player. |

Buyouts are finished we can't buyout deHaan can we? - rpeters01
Red font?
Why would they? He's got a year left. Are the Hawks going to be that much better this year? I still see them battling for the 7-8th seed at best (and will not be upset or surprised if that is all they are able to do). If Z and de Haan are still on this team to start the year, it is not a big deal or a problem (unless Stan signs Z for something crazy stupid like $5M per year). If the Hawks are out fo it by the deadline, they can, and likely will, be moved as long as they are healthy. If not, de Haan rides into the sunset at the end of the year. In the meantime, the Hawks can slowly trickle in the young guys so they aren;'t icing a blue line of inexperience the whole year. |

OK thanks - didn't catch that. - powerenforcer
See Melvin you got all worked up over nothing
On another note i really hope Stan offers Z a 1 year $3.2 mill deal and launches him and deHaan at the deadline.

@PierreVLeBrun
The Kraken had talks with Dougie Hamilton's camp but ultimately that did not lead to a contract, source says. So he won't be among the Seattle picks in the expansion draft. Doesn't mean Seattle can't circle back July 28 when the market opens for everyone.

Really lacking any top-line talent there. Eberle, Gourde and...is your top line?
D is not spectacular but solid. Goalies are suspect due to lack of experience. However they did avoid taking on bad contracts for nothing. B- so far. - CSKA1981
A lot of people were thinking the same thing 4 years ago when Vegas made their picks. That list is probably not even close to what their opening night roster will look like. |

That the kraken are intelligent - Diamondhands
Ok, my point is that they were intelligent in not overburdening themselves with locked in contracts on guys that were simply left unprotected. They have a lot of leeway to make trades/sign FA's/take on cap space for higher end prospects and picks.
That is certainly an intelligent way of managing a roster instead of simply looking at the limited offerings that were available and saying "this is what we will make our team out of". |

I agree with all that except if Stan needed another $4m to go shopping and we have no idea how many games deHaan lasts? $4m could buy a younger better or different position player. |

I am wondering if this is true for several players. The Kraken draft one player off the team but have a wink wink nudge nudge agreement to sign another UFA from that team after free agency opens up. |

If I am reading this right, they have $11M is space right now (without LTIR) with 21 roster players. There certainly will be trades, since they have too many of everything.
I personally don't think they are restricted at all. |

The Hawks on the back-end are too young. They need a veteran that can stabilize things.
The Hawks have $10 mil under the cap before even thinking of using Seabrook's and Shaw's LTIR.
I sure hope they do not sign either of Hamilton or Jones, not really what I think the Hawks need. Who would you want the Hawks to sign/trade for that you need all that cap space?

Seems strange that they’d wait until there is more competition, potentially driving up the price, when they had an exclusive window in which to snag their guys.
However, with flat cap, maybe they’re hoping the open market tempers the UFAs’ expectations a bit.

I am surprised that Larsson and Driedger both signed with the ability to have multiple offers in just days plus sign 4 year deal in Larsons case. They must be counting his contract as one of the 20 they needed to have signed for next season

Fixed that for you BTD.
So you are thinking Blowman gives the Oaf a QO of $3.2 (his current hit).
However, have you forgotten, the Oaf can elect arbitration and then Blowman likely gets stuck with a much higher cap hit (you'd think under $4.5M for sure) for 1 year. He can't walk away and the Oaf can't sign anywhere else. I also don't think he can be traded once that happens.
Stuck with a big, slow-thinking, slow-footed oaf.
Great.

Are you sure the Blackhawks can't walk away from an arbitration award?
I thought they did with Niemi back in the day...as part of the Hjalmarsson offer-sheet matching. |

Maybe they have a verbal agreement in place that they feel the UFA and his agent will honor. |

It’s determined by the contract amount given out by the arbitrator. 4,538,938 and over a team can walk away |

What perplexes me is, you see what other teams had available and Bowman decided to keep his roster the way it is versus making a trade for someone like Gourde. I’m sure Kampf is so much better. - Diamondhands
