Which is 100% Seattle should take Dunn. Tarasenko is disgruntled and wants out anyway. I question how big of a return anyone will get coming off of his two shoulder surgeries.
Probably why they take Z instead of DeHaan too. - Q-stache
If we lose Z it's not like we got nothing for him. Stan has $4+ million a year to go shopping. Add that to Keith minus Jones you're at $8m. |

Sillinger looks like a man, acts like a man and plays like a man. Kid is hungry, strong, wants the puck, wants to haul the thing like a wrecking ball to a scoring area and fire. Kid has the puck with 3 guys around him and out of that scrum comes a screaming lazer that knocks goalies a bit of balance if it hits them high cuz he caught him flat footed. Nobody expects a sizzling bowling ball to come at them when the shooter has no room to get it off but Sillinger does.
Theo gave him a comp of Jamie Benn and I've read that too and I love that comparison. I likened him to TJ Oshie with more power. ........ This kid is not a bad skater at all. Nothing prevents him from getting to where he needs to be it's just his form getting there the experts don't like. I don't care how a sprinter looks running a 4.3 40 I just look at his time. Some do it all knees and elbows head flailing some do it smooth as silk but they both get there.
Hell the kid may bust. Just never know predicting an 18 yr old kid but this kid is fun to think about as a 25 yr old NHLer. Conversely looking back 10 yrs from now Sillinger may be a top 5 NHLer out of this draft. Kid has that look. - Mr Ricochet
Great scouting report Mr.R.
The other thing I like is the genetics - the old man played 1000+ games in the NHL Nothing wrong with having a father that knows the ropes. |

In a final draft preview blog on Friday morning, I'll have my final prediction for the Hawks 1st round pick. My latest selection has been Lucius but will say I'm starting to lean back toward who I had pegged from the start: Sillinger.
Ricochet had a great post about Sillinger's skating. I would agree with how he characterized it: Sillinger may not have perfect technique but he gets the job done. His assets make up for a shortcoming like this.
I also agree on Wise being a surprise prospect to rise from the ashes. Finish his NCAA career then spend 2 years in the AHL before knocking on the NHL door. - Theo Fox
Hey Theo, maybe something to think about to incorporate into your final piece on who the Hawks might draft or your preference..... At #11 should the Hawks take a risk on the highest ceiling or play it conservative going with a player with the highest floor.
Swing for a top 6 guy that has a 35% chance of hitting the mark or take a guy with a middle 6/3rd line floor that has a 60% chance of succeeding?
Absent any droppers I agree with you the Hawks go Lucius.
Some context for Sillinger. He played in a very strong Western Conference on the last place club. So he scored a 4th best in the league 1.48 PPG (Lucius was 3rd at 1.49) with weak teammates facing 1st rotation Dmen and top 6 forwards. 24 goals in 31 games in a USHL scouts will say is as hard a jr league to score in as there is (a huge reason Corronato with his 48 goals in 51 games is climbing draft boards). Watch the following and you'll see his crazy shot is the reason why. He's #34. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2vVPiTDR9Q
And here's the skating the scouts don't like. No doubt a wonky stride. A shift by shift of his last place team vs the conference champs, Tri City Storm. StanBow owns a piece of the Storm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svaei0iz330&t=888s
And I love the Scouch Report I just ran across if you wanna take the time. A kid who carries risk (which don't)(again Theo do they swing for ceiling at #11 or maybe play safe with a Svechkov with a high floor) and as mentioned in my first post a wrecking ball mentality to bull his way to a scoring area and unleash a rocket blast with a hair trigger release. Also found it interesting that Scouch really didn't seem concerned about his skating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMhyW6VECUI |

Craig Custance from the Athletic stating that the Jackets want players and not picks in exchange for Jones. - Theo Fox
That leaves the Hawks out of it then since they only have 3. Kane, Debrincat and Kampf.

I have a feeling Jones is traded to a contender at his one-year salary of 5.25 or so and then makes a run for the money as an UFA next summer. |

Rick, would really be interested in your personal take on Sillinger if you get a chance to look at some of the vids I posted on him...... No doubt he has flaws but man that shot and grit/edginess to get that shot off. I mean some of these goalies barely move and he's firing a snapper from 30 ft.
I hate to point to Stone and his skating not harming his success cuz I think he's an outlier but Sillinger's will, shot and grit is a nice package especially in a speed/skill organIzation like the Hawks who have nothing like that.

Sorry to quote you twice Pops, but has anyone heard indications on how much Jones is looking for in his next deal?
So far it seems all the focus has been on trade assets and whether he will re-sign, while ignoring the size of the next contract. I would imagine that he and Hamilton would like similar deals. - Q-stache
I've heard north of 8, which sounds correct given what #1 Dmen are given these days (and what the Jones' camp feels he is). |

Well, if you compare the standard numbers Jones would be looking at the same (or maybe better) than Heiskenen.
BTW, looking at the advanced stats for Jones and Heiskenen highlighted one of my favorite goofy stats: expected goals for %. Heiskenen had a 54% xGF%, but a 46% actual GF%. Jones was 46% and 46% |

The Rangers are rumored to be trading Ryan Strome to the Senators for their 1st rounder then using that pick in a package for Eichel.
If I were the Senators, I'd want more than just Strome in exchange for the 1st rounder.
Also, for all you Tkachuk fans, the Flames are actively shopping Matthew but their asking price is through the roof. |

Make it a reunion! Trade Dylan Strome and Lukas Reichel for Brady Tkachuk! Reichel and Stützle can form a good due for Senators for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the links and additional insights, Rico. I will also explore those questions you posed and incorporate them into Friday's draft preview blog. I've thought about those questions, too, actually.
Scouching Report is a great resource. Will Scouch has got a sharp mind for how he analyzes prospects.
On Svechkov, he and Chibrikov are the types of players who Bowman and Kelley like similar to why they were attracted to and selected Reichel at 17th last year.
I could see the Hawks drafting either Svechkov or Chibrikov or going off the board a little bit more and eye Rosen, Robertsson, or even Poltapov.
Stankoven is a fast riser who has been compared to DeBrincat. |

Strome and Delia to LA for the #8 lol - Assman22
The Kings do want another top 6 forward. They were seeking two and got one already in nabbing Arvidsson from the Predators.
On the Predators, especially with Arvidsson and Ellis gone, look for Forsberg to possibly want out. He was pretty vocal about his displeasure with the Arvidsson trade.
The Predators definitely want to move out Johansen and Duchene but one of them alone will be really hard with their contracts.
I wouldn't want either of them anyway but would at least kick the tires on Forsberg (26 y/o). He has one year left at $6M before becoming a UFA.
Trading for Forsberg by any team would require a trade and sign or else it's the same situation as Jones. Just wait for him to hit free agency next summer and keep the assets. |

I just wonder how this will work, since the league said they cannot retain salary for Price. If you think about it, if Seattle picks Price, then he is their asset, and teams are allowed to retain salary on players traded. I think the NHL was caught with their pants down again and now are trying to cover it with a tissue (they are doing a poor job of it). - powerenforcer
If Price selected, the league says Seattle can't retain salary and trade him back to Montreal. He can be traded to anyone else with salary retained, but he has to waive his NMC after being selected by Seattle.

Like a real team's top six or what passes for a top 6 on the current Hawks? |

There's a poster over on the Committed Indians site named Craig Negrelli. Don't know his credentials but he talks like he has some inside info on the goings on in the Hawk front office. He's claiming the Hawks are considering drafting a goalie with their 1st round pick. He also says Bowman pushing hard for Seth Jones. |

And Tkachuk's QO when he becomes a RFA next year is 9M. Same as Debrincat's the following year.
