Great read. I've been starved of Senator's content for the last month and a half. This article was well written and I quite enjoyed it.

I think Loganis going to have a break out year. He will be in the lineup from day 1. I thought he looked good in his 1 game last season. I also believe that a defencemen of good quality and reasonable term is a must add to keep the team moving forward. I dont know the terms of the unprotected d to make a call. But overall i think scoring and defence is going to come from within( and quite well) in the next 2 -3 years and they need to project their cap for that.

On a side note i think they should keep their #10 this year . It will likely be their last top ten pick for a long time. ...previuosly i was thinking cash it in but have had time to think about it.

Also thanks for the blog. ...ive been reading your t.b blogs .congrats

Nothing prevents the Sens from making a deal with Seattle after the draft. Kraken are going to have 8 to 10 D on their roster after the draft and will immediately start dealing them, if they follow what VGK did. Really need a RD partner for Chabot other than Zaitsev.

Nice thought on adding a D man. It would have been nice to add another young D-man like Dunn or Bean. Demelo would have been a good add too.

I would take Dadonov at 5 million. He got 13 goals in basically a 40 game season (first 16 games Ottawa was a spiraling poopshow. The entire team played like trash). He also had 0 goals on the PP because Ottawa had one of the worst PP systems in the league. I highly doubt that will happen again and the Kraken will get decent players. 5 million for a guy who will get 20-25 goals; I would take a chance on him. His contract is done in 2 years, so you could easily trade him away. It's some risk, but I think it would be worth it for Seattle.

I've been kind of hoping they would take Dadonov so we could spend the $5mil elsewhere.

Given the amount of goalies the Sens have and the fact Murray isn't going anywhere for a while, what would be the cost for Mads Sogaard in a trade?

Tierny seems to be the choice everyone expects Seattle to take. They could try re-sign him if htey like, or flip him at the deadline

I think Seattle is picking either Chris Tierney or Evgeni Dadonov. I am still perplexed that people think a goalie like Dacord will go. There are even better goalie options now league wide than we speculated a few months ago. Not to mention, Seattle already has signed Drieger. But I guess we will see.

I'd rather see Dadonov go to clear a little more cap but Tierney going will create some space up the middle for younger players like Pinto and L.Brown (if he stays). Colin White may even have a chance of a little resurgence at centre with less of a log jam. I say this assuming (and hoping) that Dorion doesn't grab a middling centre like Kadri or Strom like rumors would suggest. Unless you are adding a legitimate piece to fill a hole, just stay the course with the youngsters.

The cleanup is started with the McGuire hire. From what I've heard so far during interviews with Dorion and Co. he has no specific tasks. He was hired by Melnyck and I believe his mandate is to observe, evaluate and report to Melnyck. By making that move it put Dorion and Smith on notice.

The expansion draft isn't just about taking the best player available to step into the lineup right away. When you're picking from 30 teams, you're going to get at least a dozen more assets than you can immediately play at once in an NHL roster. Side deals aside, it's been widely speculated that Seattle will be aiming to keep a very close eye on how much salary they take on, with maybe a few higher-priced exceptions at key positions (e.g. Giordano). So there are different types of value to consider.

Now, a strong case to be made either way for Tierney in that he's only a $3.5M AAV cap hit, can play an effective #2/3C role, and maybe even bring in a 2nd round pick at the trade deadline... but personally, I think Seattle can get better value than Dadonov for $5M x2yrs. As for Daccord, his value isn't that he's better than the NHL-ready goaltenders that are available like Price, Holtby, Driedger... it's that he brings cost-effective value even after they draft the NHL goaltenders they want to to start the franchise with. More specifically, Daccord's contract would allow Seattle to play him in the AHL next year, and still have him under affordable contract for the following season, plus there's RFA status afterwards. Dismiss it if you like, but that's actually a lot of flexibility and multi-year value for Seattle to consider.

I think it fairly likely Dorion does grab a middle 6 center, which most of us would be against I think. Ottawa, and most teams often don't go full out on younger players to the degree fans would like.

I saw the Strome rumors too. Unless there's a sign and trade I'd be very against it, as he's a UFA at the end of year.

DOes seattle need to build an entire AHL roster as well, and will that roster be expected tobe ready for the start of the upcoming season?

I mean, if it happens, it happens. There are 30 other teams and a few have similar goalies like Daccord, if they choose to go that route. Obviously, they won't load up on 3 goalies with sizable contracts.

I'll certainly be surprised if it happens. Just an opinion.

Can confirm #Sens expect to lose Joey Daccord tonight. Makes the draft more interesting.

Seattle must pick three goaltenders in the expansion draft and Postmedia's Bruce Garrioch reports the Ottawa Senators expect to lose Joey Daccord to Seattle to complete the Kraken's trio.

Well, colour me surprised! Crow eaten!

Lots of logic behind the pick, but still. Will be interesting to see who they pick as a 3rd tendy.

Driedger signed, #1, they took Vitek Vanecek (WSH) #2 and Daccord is #3

Assuming these are correct, it's very interesting to see where Seattle has deviated from making the widely "presumed" picks.
https://www.tsn.ca/seattl...sion-draft-blog-1.1670707

In many cases, they're clearly shying away from more prominently-named players with dollars/term...
OTT - J. Daccord ($0.7M x 2yr) vs. C. Tierney ($3.5M x 1yr)
WPG - M. Appleton ($0.9M x 1yr) vs. D. DeMelo ($3.0M x 3yr)
CAR - M. Geekie ($0.8M x 1yr) vs. J. Bean (RFA)
TOR - J. McCann ($2.9M x 1yr) vs. A. Kerfoot ($3.5M x 2yrs)
ANA - H. Fleury ($1.3M x 1yr) vs. K. Shattenkirk ($3.9M x 2yrs)
CBJ - G. Bayreuther (UFA) vs. M. Domi ($5.3M x 1yr)

There are select few cases of bigger-money players being targeted (e.g. Giordano, Larsson), but otherwise it's even more extreme than I'd expected in terms of salary aversion.

It will be interesting to see what the total salary will be. Right now, feel like they have loads of room and sort of feels like they are playing it almost too safe. However, cap space should be a weapon in the next year or two.
