In a somewhat odd follow-up to the news of Seattle picking Daccord, this was just added to the TSN Expansion Draft Blog.

"With the Kraken set to select goaltender Joey Daccord, Postmedia's Bruce Garrioch reports the Ottawa Senators will now focus on moving Evgenii Dadonov and Chris Tierney over the off-season."

Surely having a #10 overall pick and 3 more selections in the top 75 for an entry draft that's 2 days away is where the team's actual focus should be right now... that, or moving negotiations forward on major new RFA contracts for Tkachuk/Batherson.

Is there really even a need to move either of Dadonov/Tierney? Neither had a great year in 2020/21 and I agreed with the decision to leave them exposed, but Dadonov can play LW/RW and was on a 20G pace last year, while Tierney provides quality depth at C and would likely be a very easy player to move at the trade deadline. Unless they're planning a major upgrade at either C/RW (and I really don't mean Ryan Strome), I'm not sure I see the necessity of either being moved.

Seriously. Nothing for weeks. Then we get this. And since then, 18 different posts from 16 different teams about the leaks and who Seattle is taking.

Just here for the comments people....

There appear to be rumors of a trade being in the works with Seattle to move Logan Brown in exchange for an expansion draft-acquired player. The most pressing positional needs would seem to be C and RD, but so far there's nothing in the expansion list that looks like a good fit for the Senators.

Just curious, but what's the perceived upside with Soucy? I get that he's an affordable RFA-age D-man who's got a lot of size and some shut-down/PK potential, but on the surface it seems like he's only ever played 15min/GP in the NHL, doesn't play the RH-side, and would likely be a 3rd pairing guy on the depth chart. I don't know... if they're not targeting a RHD upgrade on Zaitsev to provide Chabot with a regular partner upgrade, then I'm not sure why they'd bother with this trade.

Conversely, I could see something being put together with the Rangers for Ryan Strome, where Brown gets potentially rolled into an Eichel package... not that I'm all that jazzed about Ryan Strome.

Assuming these are correct, it's very interesting to see where Seattle has deviated from making the widely "presumed" picks.

In many cases, they're clearly shying away from more prominently-named players with dollars/term...
OTT - J. Daccord ($0.7M x 2yr) vs. C. Tierney ($3.5M x 1yr)
WPG - M. Appleton ($0.9M x 1yr) vs. D. DeMelo ($3.0M x 3yr)
CAR - M. Geekie ($0.8M x 1yr) vs. J. Bean (RFA)
TOR - J. McCann ($2.9M x 1yr) vs. A. Kerfoot ($3.5M x 2yrs)
ANA - H. Fleury ($1.3M x 1yr) vs. K. Shattenkirk ($3.9M x 2yrs)
CBJ - G. Bayreuther (UFA) vs. M. Domi ($5.3M x 1yr)

There are select few cases of bigger-money players being targeted (e.g. Giordano, Larsson), but otherwise it's even more extreme than I'd expected in terms of salary aversion.

I would think they have some plans for free agency and via trade for sure

You resume the player pretty well. I don’t want the team to play in the left side with both Mete and Branns. Like you said miss someone on the left for the pk and physical. Strome not against the idea but not at the price of the rumor ( 10 Th ) just for one year. Maybe with an extension in place. I heard rumor about Tierney for Henrique. Not against it if we add another center with a trade like Strome, Kadri, Reinhart, Dvorak, Johansen salary retain. I forget another D I would like is Zadorov. Can play both side

i have no idea why there is so much love affair for a barely 3C like ryan strome....he is not in any way a top 6 player and yet rangers think they can get a top 10 pick for him.....he is barely if at all better than tierny....

Strome is better offensively than Tierney, but nowhere near as good defensively. Plus, he's notoriously inconsistent, and has already been traded twice from teams where he failed to provide reliable scoring. If the Rangers are trying to pull a 1st round pick for Strome, they've lost their minds, and Dorion should absolutely stay away. Henrique would be a far better value pick-up, and also provides a lot more proven leadership, with 3 years served wearing an 'A' in New Jersey, and being a Team Canada 'C' for this spring's WC gold medal team.

I would think that they need to play Logan at least 15-20 games before doing anything . He fits the bill of a big C . Otherwise the last 3-4 years has been a waste for eveyone. I know injuries....

I believe that either Dadinov, Tierney or Murray are part of a deal for a C or RD and that L. Brown is the compensation for Seattle picking Daccord.

Given what Seattle did yesterday, no deal would have been required for the Kraken to pick Daccord, least of all one for Logan Brown. And if the Senators are acquiring a C or RD via trade, it's going to be from a team looking to shed salary/AAV... not one willing to overpay for a veteran goaltender or winger. Tierney is the only one who 'might' be involved in such a move, just because he's such an easy player to move around the lineup, and only has 1yr at $3.5M AAV remaining.
