See, that’s the thing to me. Ignoring the Flyers end of it just look at that Seattle roster. Not a lot of proven goal scorers from what I see. Why not go JVR there? It’s not like he’s on a 6 year deal.

Fans don’t show up to games because you win the cap battle.

- hereticpride

Well, I was really hoping they would take JVR for obvious reasons, but in the end JVR is not that good of a player, and certainly does not warrant $7M per season, so can you blame Seattle for passing on him? I mean, in the end we would all be happy if they selected JVR, so what does that say about JVR as a player?

Yeah, this isn't Vegas where they have to hype the goal of winning a Cup in 5 years to get people to step away from the slot machine for a few mins.

Seattle's had NHL in the past. People will drive down from Canada. And frankly there's nothing to do there (sober) except cry about how expensive it is to live there, complain that you literally haven't seen the sun in weeks or go watch some douchebags throw a fish around at the market.

- Tomahawk

Yeah, Seattle is not for me. Every time I go, I expect some epiphany and find it boring as AF.

But past NHL market, 3 WHL teams, climate, Canada, wealthy wealthy burbs, international hockey savvy people scattered around..

Well, there's always that wonderful tourist attraction called CHAZ.

Both my sisters used to live there and talked it up like crazy. After I visited I understood right away why half the town is on heroin.

Looking ahead, Seattle has made the first move, and they've placed their balls on the table skewered on poker sticks*.

*And please don't say sheesh, I am just borrowing people's comments.

Now, who gets the squeeze the hardest? The teams the most desperate. Are we one of them? I think we must be close, when you combine cap situation with the "action bias' stepford sam keeps harping about.

Seattle took Jordan Eberle. Now compare him to Voracek.

Eberle: 31. $5.5 cap hit 3 more years. 20-21 season: 16 G 17 A 33 pts.
Voracek: 31. $8.25 cap hit 3 more years. 20-21 season: 9 G 34 A 43 pts.

The salary cap is God and Voracek's assists are not as valuable as some people believe.

- Captain_Ahab

So, Isles shed Leddy and they shed Eberle?

Last year I complained when they just added Zajac and Palmieri. Looks like they learned their lesson from bit players.

Go get em, Lou. The circus doesn't stay in town forever. Aim big. This should be your year.

kind of says nothing about JVR, JVR earns his contract, he is coming off a good season, he is one the best at what he does. He only has 2 years left and his real dollars are less than the cap hit

I really don't mind JVR staying as long as we can shed salary elsewhere and sign who we need (own RFA and any potential UFA). He'll get his goals but we need to utilize him on PP even more. He should be on PP1. Play on a line with a center that can feed him. Still won't earn the $7 mil (IMO) but pretty close. If we're in playoffs no one gives a poope about his salary.

My oldest son lives there; Capital Hill neighborhood. He moved there from Miami. He talks it up like he's living in Maui. I've been out there twice in the last three years, and swore I would never go again. Both of my visits have been swings on business trips to the left coast; I can't see myself spending my own cash to go out there for a visit.

It's a transient city, in the sense that no one is local. But that is the reason why the seats will fill. A lot of transplants that grew up with hockey, and what else is there to do during the winter months when it's raining weeks or months on end?

I would expect a bit of a bounce back year from Jake. I truly believe a lot of his issues come down to when he hasn't had a good offseason conditioning program.

Remember how good he was that season that they made sure he didn't eat a bunch of his moms cooking, dieted well and worked out hard?

He stated before the season started that he found it almost impossible to get gym and ice time in his home country where he was due to COVID.

Given the chip he has and how much he's been bashed for the last 6 months, he may come out with guns blazing. Guess we may get to see if he doesnt get moved.

Officially the draft hasn't even "happened" yet. There will be trades. Plus entry draft is right behind this. Lots of moving pieces. Deep breaths... Doubt they will leak any possible trades prior to the official draft show. Well, I wouldn't put money on it but I think it will be interesting.

No way they walk out there and simply announce this team...

It would be worse than "Battle of the Network Stars"...

I’ve been saying I rather keep Jake one more year and then maybe trade him because I also think he’ll bounce back. Him, as well as Couts and G, looked worse than they actually were last year because all 3 guys were consistently trying to do too much. Many of the young guys missed assignments or were out of position last year during games and often one of the vets tried to cover for them.

said this last week, I think jake is a beast this season, then you only have 2 seasons left on the contract, trading him next season might make more sense.

Whoever would give Seattle or anyone the 13th pick to take JV is insane.
As much as I prefer Jake to play elsewhere he is still productive.
The 13th pick can be better utilized by picking a pretty decent prospect or using in a trade to get a really good younger player.

Your kid lives in CHAZ? Was he one of the cheerful citizens burning businesses and cop cars? Very nice place, I'm sure.

There should be many players on this team with chips on their shoulders, including Hart. If your theory plays out, they won't be as bad as last year. But there's a lot of room to get better.

It says nothing at all about JVR the player. Here we go again with making something out of nothing. If the rumored picks are true, Seattle chose some key vets while maintaining their leverage. That leverage is available cap space. They are open for business. Seattle is saying if you need cap space, we are open for business. Ante up! It's not a statement on JVR or any other player they passed on.

Told you folks all along there was no way Seattle was taking JVR or Jake..why would they? Their contracts are totally undesireable and unless Fletch was willing to sweeten the pot they werent getting picked plain and simple. Add to that I also felt that Hakstol wasnt going to do the Flyers any favors by taking a salary. Thought they would at least take HAGG but taking a non rostered guy gives Flyers no cap relief at all. Has gone totally as expected. JVR and Jake are not moveable contracts unless Fletch is willing to eat $$ or sweeten the pot for someone. Now what...You have Jake coming back when he knows he isnt wanted. Should have included that 1st round pick to unload him and use those $$ for someone who will help the team. UGLY but lets see how Fletch fixes this mess
