For two or three years of draft they had that issue where the pick was known a few minutes before announcement and it hurt the tv product so the NFL threatened credentials and access over early pick tweets and it hasn't happened in years. No access, no value, so guys learned being the first to tweet some guy getting picked wasn't worth it. NHL reporters all want to show off their insider brass and get twitter cred and the NHL lets them and will have poopty viewership tonight as a result. NFL owns the calendar 12 months a year and American networks barely cover the NHL.

If they were going to pay a ransom why not just pay not to take Allen? My guess is Francis thought he had MB over a barrel and MB called his bluff and Francis is now left to try and act like this was his plan all along, to take a guy who was Montreal's #9 d man, give or take, last year. Exposing Price was one of the more shrewd moves of MB's tenure and he schooled Francis

It does appear on the surface that Francis got outmaneuvered by Bergevin. Bergevin got what he wanted and it would have been a no brained that Francis would have taken Allen if exposed.

Francis was under enormous pressure from the community and the media to take Price. Those same people pressuring him would be calling for his head if things didn’t work out with Price. I give Francis credit for having the stones to not succumb to the pressure. But I’m fairly sure a month ago he was making plans with Allen being in net.

I want to say the NFL did this over five years ago. Maybe that's why day three where it's round 4-7 of the NFL draft does better TV numbers than the Stanley Cup finals
