Definitely not worth it. Plekanec had more upside than him and he didn't get over 6. I know it was a different time, but given the flat cap, I think the cap circumstances are comparable and he's not as good overall as Plekanec was. If he doesn't want 5-5.5 in Montreal, he can rot in Colombus, Arizona, Buffalo, or some other hockey poop hole.

I think the rumors are exaggerating what he's asking for, and even if there aren't many Cs available I doubt teams will be giving him 7M, the offensive production just isn't there.
