Beau is one of the top forwards on this team. WTF is everyone in a hurry to trade the one guy who is 100 MPH every shift, goes into the corners, creates turnovers and scores big goals. - niteislander
Nobody is in a rush but they also need a top 4 dman and if they lose out on a UFA they like they’ll have to trade to get one. So if they sign Landenskog or trade for Tarasenko then I wouldn’t be surprised if maybe they move him that’s all. Relax pal it’s Monday morning conversation for Christ sakes |

So do the Isles despite your nonstop cap worries. - niteislander
Why don't you give me a list of who (internal and external) you think they'll sign and for what number and how long and I will plug it into the Armchair GM thing on CapFriendly and see if it fits under the cap. Include trading for or trading away any players you want, as well as sending anyone (ie: Johnston) to the AHL to save money. Buyouts too, if you think they'll buy anyone out. |

I just flagged this twice. Both times it was by accident. Incredible |

Tony D still just sitting there waiting for Lou to call him - niteislander
I've come around to your thinking on this. He'd come cheap and there's talent there to work with. I think Lou would set the expectations from the top, Trotz would reinforce that, and, if all else fails, I think the Isles' locker room is solid enough to not fall into ruin if he steps out of line.

Those are not over paid players.. fyi. they would have gotten more on the open market. Lee is a 30 goal a year player that has scored 40 before and is everything to this team. Brock is a solid 2 way center that scored 25 a year and is HUGE in the playoffs shutting down guys like Crosby, perfection line and holding the Bolts off the scoreboard.
Boychuk is LTIR and when he signed that deal he was the begining of the turn around here... Leo is overpaid sure.. but not by a lot. There are MUCH worse teams with horrific contacts than the Isles who have 24 mill in cap space. - niteislander
Anders Lee hasn't scored, or been on pace for 30 in quite some time (unless you count a brief 27 game stint this season). $6M for a 50 to 60 point player is overpaid.
I doubt they get more on the open market. Quite a bit of money on depth players.
Point really being though, hard to praise him for clearing cap space that he filled up with depth players.

yeah, Trotz has a long history of taking teams further than their roster really should go. top 5 coach in the league. top 3 even.
But he's only ever won a cup with several elite players. |

Dude it’s time to move on. It’s going on 4 years now. I know you thought there would be multiple parades in Toronto by now instead of multiple 1st rd exits but it’s getting sad now. Spending the last 4 years consumed with an ex GM is just facking beyond weird |

He should just spend 1/2 the cap on 3 forwards that don't play defense.. that'll fix us.

I agree that at the end of the day Pelech will get around 6-7 mill AAV. (he supposedly asked for $7)
I don't see any shot of Sorokin getting 5. He is an RFA that made 1 mill last year (although the signing bonus the year before to watch the playoffs was $1mill so he kinda made $2mill his first NHL season), and will continue to be a back up this year. I would be shocked if he got more than $3mill and expect him to be closer to a $2.5 mill like Giorgieve.
Casey asked for $5 mill AAV from Seattle so that is the High point.. my guess is he comes in around 3.5 -4.
Beau it depends on how long he signs for by my guess is 4-5 aav.
No clue what Palmieri is looking for but it sounds close to done. - niteislander
Since Chief seemed to miss it..
Pelech 6.5 mill
Beau 4.5 mill
Casey 4 mill
Sorokin 3 mill
That's $18 mill ... we have $24 mill in space including boychuk.
if you give Palmieri 5 mill u still have at least 1 mill ...
how much you need me to make for a D-man? 5 mill? 6 mill? or 7 mill?
Hickey is 2.5 mill .. u can move him with a pick or buy him out to save 1.6 mill
Leo is 3 mill... same thing
Need more? waive Panik and/or Johnston that is 2 mill more.

How great would it be if the Laffs didn't even make the playoffs this year. Or even better, the Habs take the last spot from them on the last day by 1 point. |

OK
There's your roster with everything you said. Johsnton/Panik buried in the AHL. Hickey bought out (he saves more money than Komarov) and Leo traded with Aho to Buffalo for a minimal return. Boychuk on LTIR.
Now how would they fit Tarasenko in with all that and only $3.3M in cap space? This roster also has no 7th D or 13th forward factored in. |
