twitter is saying the 8th year depends on what the Leafs are looking for in terms of compensation.. If it's too high of an ask, the Oilers will wait until FA starts to sign him to a 7 yr deal - PatC80
I know thats way too much to pay Hyman, but it really sucks losing him like this. I thought maybe for once a player would choose to take a bit less money to stay. Seriously this happens with so many other teams, but never the Leafs. Frustrating.

I'll take a 5th round pick.
The Oilers are willing to pay us a draft pick in order to overpay Hyman.
The alternative is we receive nothing and the Oilers still overpay Hyman.
I'll take option #1. - Leafs43
Not my team - but I'd rather see the Oil take a bigger Cap hit each year than get a 5th - which really = nothing.
Would have to be at least a 4th.
But I'm no GM so...

I still don't understand the Keith trade. At all. It's like he wanted to make a trade with maximum pain. Surely, there were no other suitors for Keith's services -- especially at that price point.
It'd be nice to run that Canadian Division one more time. - mjones242

He did, was willing to give a discount.
Holland is severely overpaying here...Hyman would be leaving 8M on the table. |

I actually like the idea of picking up some lower end picks in this draft.
My theory is that there will be a lot of players who went unnoticed this year - either because they weren't playing a lot, or there was less scouting, etc etc.
There are usually a few players who rocket up the draft rankings in their draft year. Those players very well may have gone unnoticed and are waiting to be selected in the 5th round.
Or this draft will be like every other draft and the top talent will generally be found in the first two rounds - what do I know.

Don't know how true it is, but read that Hyman would have accepted less what Edmonton is offering to stay in Toronto. Problem is, we still couldn't afford $5M per season on him |

We did t lose him for nothing. We decided to keep him for the playoffs. Do you think they should have traded him at the deadline or that they should sign him for 7 or 8 years?
He played the full value of his contract. End of story. |

Stamkos signed in a tax free state, he probably barely left a penny on the table. |

Yeah, cause rich peoples accountants don't have a way of getting out of paying taxes.
Also it's only a tax free state for the 40or so games he plays there. |

Marc Bergevin says Shea Weber has several injuries (ankle, foot, knee, thumb). "Even missing a practice for him wasn't an option. He has a lot of mileage...He won't be back next season, and probably won't be back for his career." |

I think they should have resigned him last offseason of traded him then. Its the same way I feel about Reilly this offseason. The Leafs cant afford to lose players over and over. They got worse so far not better.

Either A - this is absolute bullsh!t.
Or B - Weber is a beast who played great through the playoffs despite being injured.
This is one of the few cases where I believe B.
