Personally Im going to miss the kid, while he was rehabbing he was my sons "coach" in the Sabres learn to play program. Super nice kid, felt sorry for his girlfriend being dragged to the rink each week lol. |

It’s ok to say that losing Borgen isn’t the end of the world while also acknowledging that they lost a cheap NHL asset that they spent 5 years developing for nothing & may have been avoidable.
Both are true.
Borgen makes the team IMO based on reports Giordano is getting flipped |

Borgen - meh.
Assuming that we lost something of value is an assumption you can make. And, then again, this board can maybe wait until all the shooting is over and then b!tch. It will give the rest of us a break for a few days. |

And how much time and money did they spend on risto? One day and two dollars.
Did you listen to wgr’s explanation of why the protected risto over borgen? No.
The reason was because risto’s trade value, the can get a draft pick plus a young defenseman comparable to Borgen, I.e. asset management.
Don’t be a garf. |

I dont get all the speculation, avoidable how?
People just talk out of their ass, we aren't good now so why would you give up a draft pick to protect someone who might not be here if we get good.

Was their a side deal??
Because if you are giving them something to not take someone that's still losing something of significance.
Also what do you suggest they could have done not to lose borgen?
Since you seem to think they would take our trash if you were GM. - Carubba-Kaleta
If the return is solid on Risto I'll give them a break but over the course of the last 10 years anyone with a reasonable knowledge of hockey and math basically couldn't have done any worse |

Get better, Bergen has no value, 14 games vs what over 400 gl?
You make absolutely no sense. - MLew65
I will go to my grave believing AGM Botterill would have taken Miller over Risto |

There were several different ways to avoid losing Borgen.
Trade Risto before the protection list so you could protect Borgen instead
Protect Borgen instead of Risto
Make a side deal with Seattle to take one of the forwards and not take Borgen as long as that trade piece didn't cost more than what you have on the table for Risto already.
I am not going to lose sleep over Borgen as long as there is a good return on the Risto trade. If Risto is still on this team, then it will just be yet another failure of the Sabres.

Well over ten years their isn't just one person to blame, so can that many people lack hockey knowledge and math skills?
If I was blamed for every person's mistakes who previously had my job I don't think that would be rational or tolerated. |

You dont think other gms were wise to the desperation. They knew adams was pressed on trading risto and I'm sure they would never take advantage of such vulnerability. |

So how many teams are lining up for who is, to many on here, the worst defenseman in NHL history?
Say you actually get 2 or 3 teams interested. You think they don't have 3 Dmen each they wanted to protect?

I don't want to jump to any conclusions. They have a lot of D and are going to be active in the trade and UFA markets. It's a coin flip, IMO.

New Jersey was interested in him and made a trade with Colorado...
To say it's impossible isn't accurate. To me it's just the Sabres overvaluing Risto yet again.
Again I am not going to lose sleep over it as long as there is a decent return for Risto |

So assuming we deal jack, Sam, and risto
Here we are currently
Skinner-?- Olofsson
Bjork-Cozens-Rusty
Asplund-Mitts-Tage
Z-Eakin-Okposo
Dahlin-Joker
Samuelsson-Miller
Bryson-?
Tumbleweed
The return on those trades has to be worthwhile, you can't screw this up, well you can, but if they do..... - mattmoulson
I’d like all prospects/picks/young players
We’re gonna suck for at least a couple years anyways
So build up the new core with young assets from these trades, and pretty much guarantee that we pick high in the next couple drafts where the talents is fantastic |

We have hit rock bottom as a fan base and bounced 20ft in the air to crash back into said rocks.
We are up in arms over a 7th dman on any good team. |

So can that many people lack hockey knowledge-apparently yes they can. Adams knew what he was getting into accepting the job. I just want to see one of our GMs do something smart or ahead of the curve. Exposing a historically bad defenseman would have been a start. Did he screw up the last 9 years no, but the franchise did and I'm not willing to let them off the hook, when you take the job it's something you inherit, right or wrong. I hope they get great returns on the big 3 I'd be happy to like something they do. |

Risto equals meh. It was time to move on. Good chance they wouldn't have took Risto.

They hired one of the most respected analytical hockey minds in Ventura...if Risto is on this team post the NHL draft I won't understand the reason they hired him |

Not eye, said the blind man.
They lost Borgen, but still have Dahlin, Joker, Samuelsson, Laaksonen, Bryson, Johnson (and I'm sure I'm forgetting some) and will probably select Power and add Dumba 😉 |

Not for nothing but, why would anyone lose sleep over Will Borgen? Good grief. He was probably, at best, the 5th or 6th best defenseman on this team. A team that everyone points out is so horrible with the defense not being a strong.
I think it is time for a breath and maybe go watch a ball game, have a beer or anything else than worry about the Sabres moves. Perhaps in September, the b!tching party can ramp up again. |

I'm thinking they bring back Caggiula and bury Eakin. |
