So can that many people lack hockey knowledge-apparently yes they can. Adams knew what he was getting into accepting the job. I just want to see one of our GMs do something smart or ahead of the curve. Exposing a historically bad defenseman would have been a start. Did he screw up the last 9 years no, but the franchise did and I'm not willing to let them off the hook, when you take the job it's something you inherit, right or wrong. I hope they get great returns on the big 3 I'd be happy to like something they do. - mattmoulson
You certainly do inherit others mistakes but putting blame on someone for them is another story.
I think blame can only fall on the shoulders of ownership, they seem to be the common denominator in all this mess. |

Or maybe GM's don't value borgens 0 nhl points as much as some here do. - Carubba-Kaleta
You mean GM's don't value Risto's 245 points because he has a negative goal differential...

Borgen is a replacement level d-man but could have been cheap depth on this roster for the next few years.
It would have been nice to lose Miller instead but Seattle saw it the same way any other rationale person would with the options we provided them.
Now let’s hope they get something of value for Risto to make it worth our while.
We don’t have much in terms of RHD anymore |

Risto equals meh. It was time to move on. Good chance they wouldn't have took Risto.
Bad move that could have been avoided - Mentalorgasm5
So do two "mehs" make a right? |

Not for nothing but, why would anyone lose sleep over Will Borgen? Good grief. He was probably, at best, the 5th or 6th best defenseman on this team. A team that everyone points out is so horrible with the defense not being a strong.
I think it is time for a breath and maybe go watch a ball game, have a beer or anything else than worry about the Sabres moves. Perhaps in September, the b!tching party can ramp up again. - TC4145
Way to take a figure of speech literally
The point remains the same as last off season, making bad personnel decisions which is systemic of this franchise since the Pegulas took over |

Well thats all his fault right, I mean hockey is an individual sport and all.
Let's not factor that he's been on historically bad teams with the greatest coach ever Ralph Kruger. |

Trading Eichel and Ristolainen will set the Sabres under the salary floor by around 27 million dollars. If Reinhart goes too, you'll have RFA contracts for Dahlin (6M), Joker (2.5), Asplund (850K), Mittelstadt (2M), Couple fourth liners (2M). Comes out to be about 13.5-14M. Then two goalies. Maybe one is UPL, or maybe they give him the year in Rochester and sign a one year backup. This could go in any direction so let's pretend they spend 5M on goalies this year. Puts you around 19M. Leaves them 8M short of the floor. Even if they acquire a bundle of ELCs for the three of them, that's maybe an additional 4M on the cap. STILL short 3-4M of the floor.
Yikes.
They'll need a free agent or two. They should actually be seeking cap dumps to just be compliant.
Sabres will need defenders. Get McCabe, see if you can acquire another (good) vet D on the right side. |

My favorite thing: we will get borgen back, because they'll waive him and we have first claim.
Yes these NHL GMs didn't realize if they select borgen, they need to keep him on their roster because he isn't waiver eligible. |

For about a full season's worth of games
What about the other you know 430 games on his NHL career? |

They selected a bunch of those 6th, 7th NHL d men
They are going to have to waive some
But I don't think it will be Borgen because he is one of 3 RHD

It better be, if it is then like I said I won't care but Borgen is the new Brayden McNabb in my eyes |

Yea im not gonna debate ristolainen cause I want him gone as well. His losing stink needs to be exterminated. I'm just saying hold off until after the draft to get worked up. |

On the face...not a great move by Adams. He isn't going to get that much for Risto. But time will tell because...The Pegulas' have 'more information than the fans' |

It's not that we lost Borgen, it's the whole decision making...
Kahun last year so they could sign Eakin
Borgen exposed this year so they could protect Risto (if he is traded for a decent return then I get it so Borgen had to go)
But until they prove otherwise the Sabres do not get the benefit of the doubt anymore |
