The guys easily replaceable shouldn’t matter, we had to lose someone and it’s a bottom of the lineup dman… big fricken whoop. - Keepcomplaining
Meh, that's your opinion. You don't know what you could become. Example: Jake McCabe didn't become a regular in the lineup until year 6 of his career. Wish Borgen well, and think he'll be a guy you watch have a long steady NHL career. Game changer? No. Solid contributor? Yeah I think so. But turn the page, what's done is done. |

There were several different ways to avoid losing Borgen.
Trade Risto before the protection list so you could protect Borgen instead
Protect Borgen instead of Risto
Make a side deal with Seattle to take one of the forwards and not take Borgen as long as that trade piece didn't cost more than what you have on the table for Risto already.
I am not going to lose sleep over Borgen as long as there is a good return on the Risto trade. If Risto is still on this team, then it will just be yet another failure of the Sabres. - Stripes77
I'm assuming you're finally catching up on lost sleep for the ka-boo-hoo-hun signing.

I still think they will move Dahlin to RHD at some point. Especially if we draft Power. We would have Power, Samuelson and Johnson all on left side. |

Okay wise ass who is going to protect the star players from getting run ? Miller ? The captain skirt from Colorado hit As usual the skirts showed up!! When I played hockey it was a man’s game you hit the star player goalie or any player with a cheap shot be ready to fight!!! And get you as kick today they look 👀 the other way ! Same on them !! Hope you play on a team where you get a cheap shot there is a teammate to stand up for you and that is very leaking on the Buffalo skirts |

Kaltata was the last sabre not to wear a skirt!! For the sabres a dead breed!! Then you get Borgen same type player and you let him leave! That is the clown car thing - Rsh
Pat Kaleta wore a visor and scummed people. I can't think of a more female dog move.

I’d have protected 4-4-1
That seemed to be the obvious choice when Skinner waived to be available,
bc I’d have rather kept Borgen & risked losing Tage, Bjork or Asplund
Not that losing Borgen is the end of the world,
but it reminds me A LOT of when we traded away McNabb without giving him much of a chance even though he showed promise
We were wrong woth McNabb…..
Let’s hope we aren’t with Borgen

So I liked Kaleta for like a few seasons, but quickly realized he would not do shat in the NHL, if that is the type of player you want on the Sabres, they will never win.
They have to be taught "TEAM" toughness, Where EVERY player buys in, finishing checks, back checking, skating hard for every shift, sticking up for each other, Not looking out for I, but rather, We the team. Want a model... Look no further then Boston, that whole team plays for each other, From top to bottom each of those players will gladly get punched in the face for the better of the team... They are in your face, finish checks, block shots whatever it takes to win and are pretty much a LOCK each year as cup contenders.
We should not want goons or knuckle draggers anymore. You can have skilled guys that are tough to play against.

Bad comparison
McCabe captained TeamUSA to a gold medal
Was Borgen even the captain of his college team?
Point is….
McCabe had shown MUCH MORE before he got here than Borgen ever did
I’d have liked to keep Borgen too
But his ceiling was probably a 2nd pair defenseman….
OR
maybe he isn’t even an NHL regular??
We’ll have to wait & see |

Yes the clown car could have made a side deal? But that would be out of character! Trade the tough guys who protect you teammates! And trade them in for skirts!! Last year we were getting Eakins Reider and Irwin for toughness that was a joke!!! |

So leadership qualities make or break your ability to play? McCabe joined the Sabres because of his leadership qualities? I had no idea...
Seems the bad comparison would be leadership qualities vs actual being able to play.
The comparison is when they broke into the league. Also, McCabe was always seen as topping out as a second pairing as well until 2 years ago when he took his game to a new level. It is what it is, but to pretend it was a nothing loss is just as stupid as pretending we lost the next Orr. I happen to think a possible McCabb comparison is rather on point if Borgen hits his ceiling. |

This to hehateme yes team toughness is getting guys to stick up for one another!! Bruins and ducks preach that because of the captains . The sabres have captain skirt ! You give him Marus Folino or kassin to back him up and he is fearless!! |

It was a no brainer - Mentalorgasm5
Seems I was generous saying your Seattle draft list you posted the other day would be 40% correct
It was only 23%
And you got mad at me poking fun at it. |

McCabe showed MUCH MORE than Borgen has BEFORE they made the Sabres full time
That was my point dude
Lots of players take that long, get a limited shot & then are nothing as well

Using leadership qualities (aka saying he was captain of x team, Borgen wasn't even captain of y team) as the basis is off point completely. And I would hope so, one was a 2nd rounder, one a 4th. All your saying to me is that McCabe had a higher floor, which I won't dispute. He was never not going to be an NHL player. My point was Borgen has a chance to have a McCabe type of career. A solid middle pairing that is more of a defensive defenseman. So tell me again how it's a bad comparison. You are never going to have exacts when doing this |

I literally just explained that wasn’t the BASIS of my point
And maybe Borgen has a chance to be a “McCabe” type player
He also has a chance to never be an NHL regular |

So a higher floor. Which would make sense as one was a 2nd rounder v 4th rounder. If it wasn't/isn't a point of emphasis, why even say it at all, much less lead off with it? Up until 2 years McCabe was a 2nd pairing at best player for what looked like his career. Borgen can do that too. It's not a nothing loss was my point, it's also not losing the next Orr. |
